Job Description
The Group Finance team is based in London and Johannesburg, supporting the De Beers Group across Europe, North America and Southern Africa. The FP&A team plays a vital role in producing accurate, reliable and meaningful information within a group-wide business performance framework. The team supports the CFO and executive team in understanding the current and future value drivers of each part of the business.
The team is responsible for producing the consolidated group monthly management accounts and associated internal and external reporting for actual, budget and outlook scenarios as well as preparing commentary to accompany the group statutory accounts at the half year and year end.
The Senior Performance Reporting Analyst is required to develop a strong understanding of the business and of key Performance Reporting processes and establish a broad network of contacts within the business. This deep business understanding and broad network will, in conjunction with strong analytical and problem solving capability, be used to deliver high quality Performance Reporting outputs that clearly articulate key messages to senior management. The senior performance reporting analyst will also be required to develop and mentor the Performance Reporting Analysts and to direct them to support completion of Performance Reporting deliverables.
This role is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Key Tasks
Review & analyse monthly results and present findings and outcomes through the various stakeholder forums.
Lead and/or co-ordinate key internal & external reporting processes including quarterly performance reviews, monthly performance reviews, and flash presentations.
Provide validated input into Anglo external reporting processes including press releases, production reports and bond issuance documents.
Co-ordinate key internal & external results & budget presentations for the Board, SLT, Exco and Anglo American.
Provide insightful analysis of BU / Group results which can be used to facilitate conversations with both Business Unit and Anglo American senior management with a focus on key issues and value drivers.
Prepare scenario analysis to assist in key business decision making and cashflow optimisation.
Prepare / review periodic monthly phased forecasts and budgets for the Group, identifying sensitivities in respect of the forecasts and budgets as well as reviewing the risks and opportunities to Group results.
Prepare / review production, unit costs and earnings together with Anglo Group related reporting and analysis.
Assist in preparing ad hoc analysis as required by the CFO, Exco, Strategy and or Exco.
Throughout the year, analyse performance and anticipate, research and resolve issues encountered by the Group's various operations. This will include identifying the impact of operating anomalies, adverse financial trends, changes in policies and changes to reporting requirements on reported results.
Liaise effectively with key business contacts and build up strong working relationships.
Monitor, review and follow up on control and reporting issues and adherence to Group policies and procedures including Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR).
In this role, you will work closely with the following stakeholders,
Business Performance Reporting Managers and/or Financial Controllers
Working with Performance Reporting and Financial Reporting contacts to support understanding of material drivers of De Beers Group results and to support the responses to ad hoc queries from De Beers Group management - particularly at the managed operations.
Group Financial Reporting
Working together with the Financial Reporting team to understand how results have been reflected in HFM, and to leverage their technical accounting knowledge.
Group Business Planning
Working together with the Business Planning team to understand longer term risks and value drivers at the Group's assets, and to leverage the team's close relationships with the joint ventures to understand the material drivers of De Beers Group results and to support the responses to ad hoc queries from De Beers Group management
External Corporate Affairs (ECA)
Working together with ECA to provide insight and resolve queries on external reporting.
Other
Sharing information with other Group functions (including Safety & Sustainable Development, Strategy, Business Development, Mineral Resource Management, Pricing & Development).
Qualifications
Achieved a business / business relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. qualified accountant, MBA, CFA).
Experience in working within a Global organisation with exposure to extensive internal and external reporting demands.
Experience in an FP&A function or a commercially focused finance role.
Demonstrated experience working within a team to deliver against set targets.
Track record of driving continuous improvement.
Experience using HFM and/or Onestream would be advantageous.
Operational experience in the mining industry would be advantageous.
Ability to use a range of data and information sources to perform analysis and produce analysis to management.
Develops budgets, forecasts and reports to inform the business and drive stakeholder activity.
Performs financial reporting in accordance with group accounting principles
Understands the fundamental principles of effective financial systems.
Applies governance and compliance knowledge to organisational processes and procedures and understands how governance, risk and compliance processes impact on the business.
Understands the interactions between systems and the key factors that lead to effective, efficient financial systems.
Solves technical and operational problems and applies process design and improvement thinking to drive efficiencies.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
