It is Day 1 for the London-based Marketing Tech Hub - the newest programs under the broader EU Prime and Marketing organisation for Amazon Retail. The team is responsible for innovating the large, business-critical space of digital marketing.

This involves working with multiple technologies, big data, distributed systems, machine learning, high TPS and low latency real-time services. The Marketing Tech Hub team will oversee the architecture, design and development of new digital marketing systems and features, which will give you the opportunity to work with a wide range of customer facing technologies (including tier-1 services) and collaborate with other technical teams. There is a large R&D component to our work, and strong engineering skills together with sound business understanding and an appetite for innovation are highly valued.

Software Development Engineers will be responsible for design, development, delivery and support of large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications and tools. This job requires you to hit the ground running and your ability to learn quickly and work on disparate and overlapping tasks that will define your success. You will be working closely with the business partners, software development engineers, Applied Scientists, Business Intelligence Engineers, and Product Managers to build new customer-facing marketing experiences in a fast paced environment.

You will work with a team of smart engineers with the startup mindset to build large-scale, distributed systems and build solutions that will enhance the shopping journey of Amazon’s customers in the most scalable ways. You will regularly be involved in design reviews and code reviews. You will also be working on the operational excellence of the services owned by your team, including continuously improving the performance of applications. You will learn a variety of technologies (including AWS) and mobile development processes, and develop well-rounded skills such as dealing with ambiguity, leadership and effective project management. You will be a customer advocate and contribute towards ensuring a great customer experience for our product. You’ll work full-stack with primarily focus on middle ware and backend services. Given the scale and the complexity of Amazon’s Retail website platform and architecture, our problem space is truly unique and challenging.

Key job responsibilities

Architect, design and build large-scale digital marketing optimisation systems that power Amazon websites.
Own the delivery of end-to-end, full stack solutions.
Make sound engineering decisions and improve software development practices.
Build analytics platforms to process large volumes of traffic data, trends in marketing signals, and other key metrics.
Build experimentation frameworks to drive continuous testing new marketing experiences.
Contribute to the team’s technical vision and roadmap.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Experience in professional, non-internship software development
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
