Job Specifications
We are seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a strong background in observability, monitoring, and automation to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Golang (preferred) or Python for automation, as well as expertise in time-series databases, delivering infrastructure as code (IaC), Linux and Windows. A deep understanding of application observability is critical for this role.
The SRE will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our systems while implementing best practices in monitoring, observability and automation.
This role will require you in the office three days week at rate of £600 to £650 a day.
Required skills and experience:
Programming & Automation
Golang (preferred) or Python – for building automation tools, infrastructure services, and observability solutions.
Shell Scripting (Bash, PowerShell) – for quick automation tasks and system administration.
Configuration Management – using tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet to automate infrastructure management.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Terraform – for provisioning cloud resources and maintaining infrastructure as code.
CloudFormation – if working in AWS environments.
Helm & Kubernetes Manifests – managing Kubernetes configurations.
Observability & Monitoring
Time-Series Databases – Prometheus, InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, or TimescaleDB for metrics collection and storage.
Logging & Tracing – Experience with:
ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or Graylog
OpenTelemetry – for distributed tracing and observability.
Grafana – for visualizing metrics and alerts.
APM (Application Performance Monitoring) – tools like New Relic, Datadog, or Dynatrace.
Cloud & Infrastructure Management
Public Cloud Expertise – AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Kubernetes & Container Orchestration – managing microservices and containerized workloads.
CI/CD Pipelines – Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or GitLab CI/CD.
Service Mesh – Istio, Linkerd, or Consul for microservice observability.
Operating Systems & Networking
Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, RHEL) – system administration, security, and performance tuning.
Windows Server Administration – experience with PowerShell, IIS, and Windows services.
Networking Fundamentals – understanding TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers, and Firewalls.
Reliability Engineering & Best Practices
SLOs, SLIs, and Error Budgets – setting and maintaining reliability objectives.
Chaos Engineering – using tools like Gremlin or Chaos Monkey for resilience testing.
Incident Response & Root Cause Analysis – using runbooks and post-mortems to improve system reliability.
