As a Digital & Cybersecurity Degree Apprentice you will be based out of our Manchester Office. These exciting opportunities represent a new growth period for Siemens Energy - Grid Technologies and offer excellent opportunities to be part of our apprenticeship programme.
Please note that this role will require you to attend Manchester Metropolitan University to complete the BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions, as well as a Level 6 degree apprenticeship qualification.

How You’ll Make An Impact
This engineer will design networks of intelligent devices using Ethernet protocols like IEC61850 for substation monitoring and control. They will configure device settings, integrate third-party systems (e.g., fire or CCTV), test configurations in a lab, and assist with onshore and offshore installation and commissioning. Their role also includes configuring computer systems, performing cybersecurity analysis, and applying hardening principles.
Additionally, the engineer will design and configure SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, ensuring their integration with other subsystems, optimizing data acquisition, and maintaining system reliability, efficiency and security.
The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of Cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches, routers and firewalls.
Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint, A design engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes.
Gain experience in the technology and construction methods utilised in the business.
Gain first-hand exposure to the role by working closely with Senior Design Engineers, technical leads and Project Managers.
Develop key technology and toolset skills in design, virtualisation, visualisation and construction techniques.
What You Bring
A Minimum of 3 A Levels at grade BBC (or equivalent)
GCSEs at grade C or above / grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), in English Language and Mathematics
Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery.
Enjoyment of working within a team environment.
It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience e.g. summer placements.
It would also be beneficial for applicants to have a self-driven interest in IT e.g. Operating systems, docker, homelab concepts or programming.
Must be able to navigate through complex challenges.
Must be flexible and adaptable.
Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
About The Team
This engineer will join a mixed team of electrical equipment control, computer system, cyber security and SCADA engineers whose responsibility it is to ensure that all components within and connecting to a substation can be remotely monitored and controlled from a central facility owned by the customer.
