FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Java Engineer to work for our client within the retail sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.
As a Senior Java Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Java-based applications, with a strong focus on Azure deployments. As a senior team member, you will mentor junior developers, ensure best coding practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy high-performance Java applications
Lead the architecture and development of complex software solutions
Optimise and enhance existing Java-based applications for better performance and scalability
Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards
Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to maintain code quality
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver robust solutions
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and production issues
Deploy, manage, and maintain applications on Microsoft Azure
Utilize Azure services such as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Service, Azure Functions, and Azure DevOps
Stay updated with emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in Java development
Strong proficiency in Java (JDK 8+), Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, etc.)
Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure deployments
Proficiency in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Service, and Azure Functions
Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
Strong understanding of containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes
Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and design patterns
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in an agile development environment
