Position Description

We’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take a strategic and hands-on role in shaping the future of data within our Credit platform — a modern SaaS solution for financial loan originations and collections.

As the Lead Data Engineer, you’ll guide the evolution of our data architecture, analytics, and data-in-motion capabilities. You’ll be responsible not only for driving architectural excellence, but also for advancing our platform’s embedded BI/reporting features, enabling real-time data flow across services, and mentoring a growing team of engineers. You’ll work across product, engineering, and client implementation teams to ensure we’re leveraging the right data technologies and patterns to support our present needs and long-term ambitions — including AI/ML readiness and cloud-native scalability.

We're looking for a forward-thinking technical leader who’s passionate about consistency, efficiency, and innovation in the data domain.

This role is open to candidates across the U.S. including Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX, Knoxville, TN and Fairfax, VA. TWork schedldule is East Coast business hours.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Define and lead the data engineering vision and strategy for the Credit platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
Oversee the platform’s full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to modeling, reporting, and real-time streaming.
Advance our in-app reporting and analytics capabilities, working with tools such as Apache Superset and modern modeling techniques.
Establish and maintain data architecture standards, frameworks, and patterns across teams.
Drive consistency and reuse in data integration and transformation pipelines using tools like Apache NiFi and other ETL/ELT platforms.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align data strategy with product goals, business needs, and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate and recommend modern data platforms (e.g., cloud object storage like S3, distributed file systems like HDFS, streaming platforms) for optimal scalability and flexibility.
Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and architects, fostering a high-performance, growth-oriented culture.
Partner on efforts to prepare the platform for AI/ML integration, including data readiness, governance, and architectural considerations.
Guide implementation and code reviews to ensure data best practices and standards are upheld.
Serve as a hands-on contributor when needed — this is a leadership role, but not a hands-off one.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

7+ years of experience working across a range of data management platforms and technologies, including relational (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), event streaming, and columnar storage.
7+ years of experience with data modeling principles across various storage and processing paradigms (relational, NoSQL, event-based).
5+ years of hands-on experience with ETL tools like Apache NiFi, and data visualization platforms like Superset or similar BI tools.
Strong experience with reporting and analytics modeling, including optimization for performance and usability.
Deep understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, including versioning and governance practices.
Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable, performant data designs.
Experience conducting design/architecture reviews and performing implementation/code reviews.
Proficiency with data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, or similar).
