Location: Cambridge, UK (Hybrid 3 days onsite/week)
Contract – InsideIR35
• Experience running and maintaining on-premise data centres
• Strong experience with Linux (Ubuntu / Centos)
• Experience enterprise storage including ISCSI and SAN technology
• Prior experience using automation tools (Ansible, Foreman etc)
• Knowledge of IP networking, DNS, and firewalling
• Experience with Python, shell scripts and command-line tools
• Knowledge of containerisation and related orchestration technologies
• Demonstrable experience of remediation projects, ideally within a PCI-DSS certified environment.
• Strong verbal & written communication skills and natural willingness to collaborate across teams and organisations.
• Naturally able & productive with ITSM tools such as Jira, ServiceNow etc.
Great to haves:
• Good knowledge of the various services and capabilities of cloud computing platforms; Ideally AWS
• Hyper-V, Microsoft AD, AAD & VMWare experience
• Experience maintaining OpenStack
• Experience maintaining build system, source code management, TeamCity and GitLab services

As Principal Systems Engineer, you’ll lead on the technical design and implementation of this programme, ensuring quality engineering practices are applied throughout. Key Responsibilities Lead on systems engineering for a high-impact mobile ticketing programme, contributing to architectural design, requirements analysis, and integration planning. Act as the subject matter expert on smartcard systems, influencing technical design decisions and helping shape national rail ticketing standards. Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tools, and processes to ensure efficient delivery.
