Database Researcher / Senior Researcher / Principal Researcher - R&D center - Edinburgh, Scotland

We have partnered with a global technology leader collaborating with the University of Edinburgh on groundbreaking research and development of next-generation database systems.

We are seeking PhD-level researchers to join a dedicated industry-research group, working on both theoretical and applied research to shape future data management technologies.
The team is expanding and seeking individuals skilled in areas such as:
Database systems (transactional/analytical)
Query processing and optimization
Storage and indexing engines
Parallel/concurrent algorithms and distributed computing
Graph algorithms, programming languages, or operating systems

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct systems research on future data management systems
Design and implement core components for next-gen data processing systems
Contribute to major open-source projects
Attend prestigious global conferences and publish in top-tier journals
Collaborate with academics, including the University of Edinburgh, and other R&D teams

Qualifications:
Strong computer science background
Proficiency in system-level programming languages (C/C++, Rust, Java, Go)
Expertise in databases, algorithms, or system design
Excellent communication skills in English
Published in peer-reviewed conferences or journals (preferred)

Job Introduction The Risk Models and Data team within the Risk function is responsible for stress testing model and tool development and maintenance, risk data analytics, the regular production of a number of MI reports on various risk topics and risk data governance. Work with customer IT to test customer data source endpoints to ensure they meet specification. Work with our Engineering teams to ensure end-to-end capability for integrated data. About you You must have at least two years of experience in Azure Data Factory and be comfortable building transparent, easy-to-support pipelines. Excellent communication skills: you can clearly explain technical matters to any audience. Confident working with complex referential data. Knowledge of Rest APIs, SQL databases and other data sources. A team player, with experience collaborating with other departments. You demonstrate good attention to detail and enjoy breaking complex problems down into simple steps.
