Octopus Energy Generation – Fund Management /
Full-time /
Hybrid
At Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN), we're passionate about powering a sustainable future. As pioneers in the renewable energy space, we don’t just invest in utility-scale projects; we invest in people, communities, and a greener tomorrow.
Since stepping into the renewables arena in 2010, we've made waves—becoming a top investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe, the largest backer of solar power in Europe, and now, we're diving into offshore wind with equal enthusiasm. Today, we proudly manage over £7bn in renewable energy assets worldwide.
Our dynamic portfolio includes over three hundred major energy-generating companies, from wind farms to solar power plants, with exciting new ventures in energy storage and hydrogen on the horizon. As we continue to grow, we're looking for passionate individuals to join our diverse and dedicated team, helping us drive the future of renewable energy forward.
About The Role
We are seeking a passionate and analytical ESG professional to join our London-based team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on data-led approaches to ESG and sustainable finance, and who wants to help shape the future of responsible investment in renewable energy.
The Portfolio ESG Analyst/Associate will work closely with the Asset Management and Fund Management teams across our operational and construction-stage assets. You will help ensure ESG risks are well managed and that sustainability and impact goals are consistently advanced. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to take ownership of ESG reporting for select funds and support stewardship and engagement activities with underlying portfolio companies and asset managers.
What You'll Do
Own ESG data systems: Drive the systematisation of ESG data collection, storage and calculation from our renewable energy assets and counterparties, ensuring full alignment with SFDR and other disclosure frameworks.
Implement scalable reporting infrastructure: Define templates, tools and processes that support efficient reporting as the platform grows, including input into the ESG reporting suite used across funds.
Lead fund ESG reporting: Take ownership of ESG data and disclosures for selected funds, supporting regulatory, investor and internal reporting needs. This includes quarterly reports, annual impact statements and input to investor presentations.
Stewardship and engagement: Work with investee companies and third-party asset managers to support ESG improvements in both strategy and operations. This includes contributing to engagement plans, overseeing action follow-ups, and tracking progress on thematic topics such as biodiversity, community relations, or supply chain transparency.
Contribute to ESG integration in investments: Support ESG due diligence on new investments — particularly in renewable energy infrastructure — assessing risks, negotiating ESG data provisions into contracts, and identifying early-stage opportunities for delivering environmental or social value.
Drive ESG reviews: Conduct regular ESG assessments and reviews with asset managers and service providers, identifying risks, gaps, and areas for improvement.
Measure and manage carbon: Support Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions measurement, including data gathering and the application of carbon accounting methodologies.
Track regulation: Keep current with ESG regulation, including SFDR, EU Taxonomy, TCFD and CSRD, ensuring our processes meet evolving expectations.
Support impact initiatives: Collaborate with asset teams and stakeholders on biodiversity, community and circular economy projects.
Tell compelling stories: Translate raw ESG data into case studies and insights that engage investors and demonstrate the value of our ESG work..
What You'll Need
1–5 years’ experience in ESG, sustainability or sustainable finance, ideally with exposure to infrastructure, real assets or investment funds
Familiarity with sustainability regulations and standards (e.g. SFDR, EU Taxonomy, TCFD, CSRD, PRI)
Practical experience in carbon footprinting and ESG data collection preferred
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to work across complex data sets
Comfortable building or managing reporting platforms and tools; experience streamlining data processes and identifying improvements
Highly organised, resilient and comfortable managing multiple deadlines
Able to work independently, collaborate across teams and build strong working relationships
A genuine passion for sustainability, energy transition and the role of finance in accelerating net zero
Our process usually takes up to 4 weeks, but we’ll always do our best to flex around what works for you. Along the way, you’ll chat with our recruitment team and your Recruiter will help you throughout different stages. Got any burning questions before then? Drop us a message at hiring@octoenergy.com and we’d love to help!
