AI/ML ENGINEER
Fully Remote
Full-time, Permanent
£75,000 starting salary (generous raise expected after Year 1)

Eden Scott is recruiting an AI & ML Engineer for Afternoon Finance. This is a fully-remote IC role for experienced, confident, ambitious, & highly-talented engineers or data scientists. Read on & get excited!

About Afternoon
Afternoon Finance is an embryonic SaaS startup bursting with energy, ambition, & an encapsulating vision to become the #1 platform used by financial advisors globally. This is not just a job, this is a chance to be part of something truly groundbreaking from the very beginning. At the core of it, Afternoon are looking to disrupt the financial advisory world by reinventing the way such firms work – creating their AI-first operating model for financial advisors.

The Afternoon team has been working for years developing unique expertise in Open Banking, data enrichment, fintech, AI/ML, data science, & UX. The founding team have proven expertise in this realm, as they are the people behind Nude Finance – the award-winning fintech app offering lifetime ISA products that was acquired by Tembo Money within 5 years of inception. This prior experience has already aided them in their short journey; helping them to over-achieve their initial goal in their first round of investment, with backing from industry experts.

What sets Afternoon apart is that they are automating data collection from any source into a single, up-to-date view that’s accurate & reliable. Automating & integrating each advisor process based on quality data, working in seconds and finding insights humans couldn’t keep up with – allowing specific AI modules for each task across data capture, turning 3 hours of work to 3 minutes.

The Opportunity
This role is a truly unique opportunity to become the 2nd AI engineer / data scientist within a well-funded, visionary startup doing ground-breaking greenfield work. This hire will be sitting between the Chief AI Officer & CTO (from a technical point of view, rather than seniority), working closely with both, doing a mixture of data science work building models & software engineering / writing code.

You will take models from concept all the way to production, build scalable pipelines, & shape real products, not just proofs-of-concept.

The vital thing for this role is that the successful candidate will be putting their pipelines & models into production. As such this person must have demonstrable experience of shipping models into live production environments.

The Person – what we’re looking for
Could come from a couple of different career backgrounds:
A software engineer who has moved into data science / ML engineering over the last few years & become obsessed with AI
A data scientist / ML Engineer who has been frequently putting their models into production & has Python, FastAPI, & Pydantic expertise / familiarity.

The Technical Requirements:
Experience developing & deploying NLP models (LLMs, NERs, transformers, classifiers, embedders) from scratch to production; with additional Hugging Face ecosystem experience.
Alternatively, candidates from Computer Vision or Tabular Data background will still be considered.
Familiarity with structured data extraction / image recognition (eg, OCR or VLMs).
Writing clean, maintainable, & well-structured code in Python (pydantic, dataclasses).
Building APIs with FastAPI.
Experience building synthetic data pipelines or working with reinforcement learning or unsupervised / semi-supervised learning is not required but very impressive!

Why this job?
Getting stuck in to solve complex problems through ground-breaking experimental work in live environments.
Opportunity to put research into production & further grow your AI expertise within a completely AI-driven product & company.
A fully remote role within a remote-first company.
Company culture valuing innovation, collaboration, pushing technology to its limit, & rewarding the people who build the product handsomely.
Direct access to leadership & company founders by working daily with CTO, Chief AI Officer, & a software engineer.

Does this sound as exciting to you as it does to us? Let's talk! Email afternoon@edenscott.com
Please apply with CV to be considered.
Afternoon Finance is an equal opportunities employer & values the unique perspective a diverse workforce brings to what they do.
