FULL STACK ENGINEER
Fully Remote
Full-time, Permanent
£75,000 starting salary (generous raise expected after Year 1)

Eden Scott is recruiting a Full-Stack Engineer for Afternoon Finance. This is a fully-remote IC role for experienced, confident, ambitious, & highly-talented engineers. Read on & get excited!

About Afternoon
Afternoon Finance is an embryonic SaaS startup bursting with energy, ambition, & an encapsulating vision to become the #1 platform used by financial advisors globally. This is not just a job, this is a chance to be part of something truly groundbreaking from the very beginning. At the core of it, Afternoon are looking to disrupt the financial advisory world by reinventing the way such firms work – creating their AI-first operating model for financial advisors.

The Afternoon team has been working for years developing unique expertise in Open Banking, data enrichment, fintech, AI/ML, data science, & UX. The founding team have proven expertise in this realm, as they are the people behind Nude Finance – the award-winning fintech app offering lifetime ISA products that was acquired by Tembo Money within 5 years of inception. This prior experience has already aided them in their short journey; helping them to over-achieve their initial goal in their first round of investment, with backing from industry experts.

What sets Afternoon apart is that they are automating data collection from any source into a single, up-to-date view that’s accurate & reliable. Automating & integrating each advisor process based on quality data, working in seconds and finding insights humans couldn’t keep up with – allowing specific AI modules for each task across data capture, turning 3 hours of work to 3 minutes.

The Opportunity
This role is a truly unique opportunity to become the 2nd software engineer within a well-funded, visionary startup doing ground-breaking greenfield work. You will be working closely with the CTO, building & maintaining everything that supports the Chief of AI’s work.

The position will be a well-balanced full stack role – split evenly between frontend & backend work. The successful candidate will be just as comfortable creating beautiful, slick front-ends as they are writing clean, robust, & scalable backend code.

Fantastic chance for a talented software engineer to future-proof their experience by collaborating on AI-driven projects & grow their AI knowledge, whilst still building high-quality, scalable, & performant software solutions.

The Tech Stack
Backend: Design & implement features in Python backend backed by PostgreSQL, using FastAPI & pydantic heavily.
Frontend: Develop, maintain, & optimize front-end apps using React, written in Typescript
Infrastructure: Managing infrastructure on AWS using Terraform

The Person – what we’re looking for
Senior / Lead / Principal Engineers (IC) will likely be the appropriate level.
A full-stack engineer who is highly confident & competent across both front & back end development.
Strong capability in React & similar modern front-ends.
Python experience & associated frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI)
Must have solid grasp of OOP principles
Worked with testing frameworks (Jest, PyTest, Playwright, etc)
Exposure across cloud services & relational databases
A natural instinct to move fast & break things, learn what works, & iterate quickly.
Someone who holds themselves to the highest standard, self-motivated & naturally proactive.
Enthralled by the company vision & by the possibilities of what this technology could do for the future of financial advice.

Experience across the entire tech stack is not the be-all & end-all, but in an ideal world you would have experience across Python, React & Typescript in particular – as this will allow you to hit the ground running. Generally, the more experience you have across the tech stack the better.
Why this job?
Solve complex problems through ground-breaking experimental work in live environments.
Opportunity to grow your AI expertise & future proof your skillset.
Autonomy & wide scope to deliver your own self-led projects.
A fully remote role within a remote-first company.
Company culture valuing innovation, collaboration, pushing technology to its limit, & rewarding the people who build the product handsomely.
Direct access to leadership & company founders by working daily with CTO, Chief AI Officer, & an AI engineer.
Does this sound as exciting to you as it does to us? Let's talk! Email afternoon@edenscott.com
Please apply with CV to be considered.
Afternoon Finance is an equal opportunities employer & values the unique perspective a diverse workforce brings to what they do.

Software Engineer, Backend
Job Description
Create the future of travel with us Whether it’s to visit the people closest to us, starting an exciting adventure, or a career-defining business trip, travel is an essential part of our lives. Yet we've all experienced the aches and pains of getting to our destination. Today, more than 4 billion airline passengers rely on technology that hasn't kept up with the expectations of the modern connected traveller. That’s why we’ve started to rebuild the infrastructure that underpins the travel industry. We’re on a mission to unravel travel — simplifying systems and building the tools that will make the future of travel effortless. We were part of Y Combinator S18's cohort and we are backed Benchmark, Blossom, Index Ventures and Kima Ventures. A fantastic set of investors that has helped build some of the world's largest companies. Our team in London is growing and we’re looking for talented people to join us on our journey. Engineering at Duffel We're building tools to simplify travel distribution, search and booking. What does this actually mean? It's one common and seamless API. This brings huge technical challenges as we need to design and build a beautiful API before integrating to hundreds of airlines. Along with that we need to navigate through the differing needs and systems of each airline whilst building a fantastic developer experience to go with it. The tools used on the team include Elixir, Phoenix, Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform. What we're looking for in you A passion for designing and building fantastic API's, delivering great developer experiences to go with it. An interest in working with Elixir, this is what we mostly work with. Previous experience isn't necessary and learning on the job is absolutely fine. What's more important is your general engineering ability rather than your knowledge of a particular language or framework. A high bar in code quality and API design. Opinions on what good engineering standards and processes look like as we define ours at Duffel. Big picture thinking - you can make trade offs on technical work streams against business impact. Fantastic communication skills. You're able to articulate what you're working on and why to the team in a clear and structured way. You thrive in a collaborative environment. You believe in your own methods but keep an open mind, taking suggestions and feedback onboard as well. Bonus if you have experience in travel, flights, hotels or cars. What You Can Expect From Us We're dedicated to your personal growth. Our environment is comfortable both physically, but also in that our ears are always open to any ideas, concerns and questions. We believe that everyone should have pride in their work, taking full ownership of it and its impact. That's why everyone who joins Duffel owns a share of the company. We are an equal opportunities employer. We believe that the key to our success is employing a diverse team, that's why recruitment decisions are only based on your experience and skills. We value your ability to problem solve and build amazing things so we welcome applications for everyone – regardless of age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief. Note to recruitment agencies Duffel does not accept speculative CV's from external parties. Any unsolicited CV's sent to us will be treated as property of Duffel, and any attached terms and conditions associated with these CV's will be null and void.
