The Role: Data Scientist – Ops Excellence
Join our dynamic Operations team at British Airways as a Data Scientist – Ops Excellence, where you will play a key role in leveraging data-driven models and analytics to enhance operational decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a fast-paced environment, developing innovative solutions that drive efficiency and performance.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement quantitative models and data products to tackle key business challenges.
Apply predictive (ML, AI) and prescriptive analytics at scale to support digital tools in a production environment.
Create new metrics, reports, and dashboards that leverage historical, live, and predictive data.
Extract and integrate data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights for digital tools.
Become a subject matter expert on data integrity and pipelines, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand complex business processes and develop digital tools to support them.
Identify and structure ill-defined business problems, shaping analytical projects to address key priorities.
Manage a portfolio of projects within an agile product team, focusing on delivering value quickly.
Clearly communicate technical insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Influence decision-makers with data-driven recommendations that impact BA’s operational strategy.
Stay at the forefront of data science advancements, continuously improving methodologies and technologies.
What You’ll Bring To British Airways
A numerate and analytical mindset with a strong passion for data-driven problem-solving.
Proactive approach with a can-do attitude and the ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with an ability to influence diverse stakeholders.

Ability to stay resilient under pressure, demonstrating flexibility in dynamic situations.
Your Experience
Strong Python skills (required) and experience with other programming languages (preferred).
Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to write well-structured queries and prototype new metrics.
Advanced analytical capabilities, with expertise in data science, machine learning, and operational research techniques.
Experience developing and deploying models in a production environment.
A numerate degree with a strong focus on data science, analytics, or operational research, or equivalent professional experience.
