Job Specifications

The Datadog Agent is software that runs on customer infrastructure and supports a wide range of platforms. It efficiently collects observability data from millions of hosts and sends them to Datadog, where our customers can analyze their monitoring and performance data. OpenTelemetry (OTel) is an open source, vendor-neutral observability solution that allows teams to monitor their applications and services in a standardized format.

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who will help us ensure that OpenTelemetry users deploying the open-source Datadog Agent can get access to all of Datadog's industry-leading observability solutions and can continue to leverage OpenTelemetry-specific capabilities (via the embedded OTel Collector). Come join us to unlock new observability capabilities across millions of Agents, for technical customers who care deeply about what you build.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

Develop high-performance OTel observability pipelines in the Datadog Agent, running on customers’ infrastructures and targeting a large number of platforms / environments / deployment models, with Datadog-specific and upstream OpenTelemetry contributions
Simplify customers’ onboarding and management of OTel pipelines with Fleet Management capabilities
Review community contributions to Datadog-related components of OTel
Take part in investigating and fixing issues with the internal production deployment of the Datadog Agent
With your team, be a driving force in product decisions and plan the most important projects to work on next

Who You Are:

You have been building software for 5+ years and know the systems you’ve worked on from top to bottom
You have significant experience in one or more programming languages such as Go, Java, Rust, .NET or C/C++
You value code simplicity and performance
You are data driven and use observability products
You want to work in a fast, high-growth environment that respects its engineers and customers
You are motivated by solving problems for our customers

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Bonus Points:

You have experience building and shipping packaged or downloadable software
You are familiar with OpenTelemetry
You have contributed to or have an official role in Open Source projects
You have significant experience in using profilers, debuggers, tracers, or similar tools to improve the code quality of the software you’re writing

Benefits and Growth:

New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions
Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
