We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading consultancy clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Design Engineer to join their team for a key distribution substation project.
Job Responsibilities/Objectives
As a Design Engineer for Distribution Substations, you will be responsible for delivering electrical designs for distribution substations. This role involves designing systems to meet both technical and regulatory requirements, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective designs that support the future of energy distribution across Scotland. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, contributing to a range of projects from the conceptual design phase through to the final implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical distribution systems, particularly in the design and development of substations.
1. Design electrical systems for distribution substations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
2. Prepare detailed design documentation, including technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
3. Undertake site surveys and assess project requirements, ensuring accurate data collection for design purposes.
4. Perform electrical load analysis, fault level studies, and protection coordination as part of substation design.
5. Assist in preparing risk assessments and ensure designs meet health, safety, and environmental standards
Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience). MUST
2. Proven track record in the design of distribution substations, preferably in the UK energy sector.
3. Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including power systems, protection, and control systems.
4. Understanding of UK electrical standards, such as the Electricity at Work Regulations (EWR), and other industry guidelines.
5. Able to use AutoCAD, electrical design software, and other relevant tools.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Although not essential, the following skills are desired by the client:
1. Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (IET, IMechE, or equivalent).
2. Familiarity with renewable energy systems and their integration into the electrical grid.
3. Knowledge of SCADA systems and their integration with distribution substations.
4.Ability to produce technical drawings, reports, and specifications with attention to detail.
