Job Description
The Senior Engineer, Software is part of a team working in an Agile/Scrum software development environment specializing in healthcare solutions based in Gloucestershire.
The Senior Engineer, Software will have a high degree of knowledge and experience for a range of software development disciplines and will share this experience and knowledge to provide expert-level insight for software development activities. They will be involved in figuring out most appropriate technological ways of implementing new features and enhancing existing ones and will work closely with the Lead System Designer/Product Design Owner and Software Architect to help continuously improve the team's software development activities.
What You'll Do
Senior Engineers are collectively responsible for defining, educating and implementing the coding standards which the department will observe alongside programming “best practice”.
Senior Engineers will also largely dictate acceptable design patterns, tools and techniques to be employed to perform common operations such as caching, queuing, logging, persistence and security.
All activities in the SDLC will be undertaken and the Senior Engineers should be capable of anticipating performance and scalability issues pre-implementation.
The Senior Engineer is also required to undertake 3rd-line support tasks, diagnosing and rectifying issues on customer systems.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
A minimum of 5 years' commercial experience with PHP, relational databases (MySQL / MS SQL Server) and front-end web technologies
Experience with jQuery and other JavaScript frameworks
The ability to effectively communicate in a clear, positive and professional manner to all levels from customers and peers to director level
Good analytical and problem solving skills
High level of computer literacy
The ability to explain technical solutions clearly
Motivation to continue to improve one's own knowledge and skills
Ability to work well as part of a team
Qualifications / Skills
Computer Science degree or equivalent qualifications/experience
Desirable
Experience with Laravel framework
Experience with Neo4j
Experience with version control (preferably Git)
Familiarity with Agile Scrum
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Jenkins
Experience with Jira and Confluence
Knowledge of the healthcare sector, including software products designed for clinical use
