The Role & Team
We are looking for a mid/senior React Native Developer to join our web and mobile team. You will be joining a relatively small team with big ambitions, offering a lot of opportunities for growth and specialisation.
You will work in a flexible team of mobile and web developers with a lot of React experience but quite new to React Native, with a QA tester and a product owner, implementing designs from our internal design team and developing Backend-For-Frontends and microservices integrating with internal Salesforce and 3rd-party APIs. You will be managed by an Engineering Manager, who is responsible for the team's output and career development, and you will work closely with our web and mobile engineering lead.
This is a full-stack role, but with an emphasis on the actual frontend. You can work remotely with occasional trips into the office to meet with the team, but you can be based anywhere in the UK. You must have the right to work in the UK.
Oodle has offices in Manchester, London, and Oxford. Many of Oodle's frontend engineers are based around Manchester.
Our Technology:
You will mainly work in React Native + Expo in Typescript, with data coming from an Apollo GraphQL backend-for-frontend (BFF) and upstream Node.js microservices. You will also interact with APIs written by other parts of the business in Java, Python, and Salesforce (Apex).
Outside of the mobile app, you will have opportunities to contribute to our our Node.js back-end services and BFFs, as well as our web frontends built with React and Next.js.
What you'll be getting up to:
Collaborate with product managers, designers and developers to deliver both new functionality and iterative improvements to customer-facing experience
Build an efficient, extensible and testable mobile app
Review code built by your team
Collaborate and contribute to shared tooling
Actively participate in your team's Scrum ceremonies
Assist the team lead with architecting new features and refactors
Technical Skills we need for this role:
React Native and Expo
Publishing apps to the App Store and Google Play Store
Implementing responsive designs
Willingness to work on our websites
Using a JavaScript testing framework (Jest/Mocha etc)
Integrating with 3rd party APIs
Experience with git version control, as well as modern IDE (VSCode, neoVim)
Not afraid of documentation, willing to experiment with new ideas and technologies
These are nice-to-have skills (We're happy to train):
Experience with Next.js, React Native Testing Library, Framer, GraphQL, Apollo Server
Understanding of continuous development and continuous integration patterns.
Mentoring/upskilling fellow team-members
Experience working with/on a component library or a design system (such as Material Design or React Native Paper)
