Role z/OS Systems Hardware Specialist
Location Sheffield, UK (hybrid)
Start Date - ASAP
Duration - A minimum of 6 months

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced z/OS Systems Hardware Specialist to support and maintain Mainframe Processor operations within a multi-LPAR, multi-site Sysplex environment. The role involves hardware maintenance, system upgrades, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to ensure high availability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Mainframe Hardware Support & Maintenance:
Oversee the UK Mainframe Processor estate in a multi-LPAR Sysplex environment.
Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day hardware incidents and system failures.
Processor & Microcode Upgrades:
Lead upgrades of IBM Mainframe Processors to the latest generations (z14, z15, z16).
Upgrade Microcode levels on Mainframe Processors, Coupling Facilities, HMCs, and TKEs.
System Configuration & Optimization:
Build and activate IODF/IOCDS configurations for storage and system updates.
Update PR/SM definitions via HMC.
Collaboration & Risk Management:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
Maintain compliance with risk management and regulatory processes.
Out-of-Hours Support:
Provide after-hours support for critical hardware implementations and upgrades.
Required Skills & Experience
Extensive experience in Mainframe hardware support and configuration.
Strong knowledge of IBM z/OS systems and tools, including:
HMC, HCD, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, CHPID Mapping Tool, JES2.
Hands-on experience with IBMz processor generations (z14, z15, z16).
Sysplex and Coupling Facility expertise.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a broad audience.
Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory But Advantageous)
Automation, GDPS, Rexx, and CLIST Scripting.
OSA-ICC definition and configuration.
Basic understanding of DWDM technology.
Familiarity with Disk/Tape infrastructure.
