Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of materials data products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Understands materials and materials simulation and performs moderately complex development activities to develop data products for materials selection, simulation and to support teaching.
Project work will vary, but typically involves independent research and data manipulation and analysis.
Understands and employs best practices.
Performs moderately complex bug verification, database builds and support for assigned products.
Works under the general supervision of a manager.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements And Experience
BS, MSc or PhD in material science, an engineering discipline, or a related physical science subject.
Working experience with solving complex technical engineering/materials problems using recognised methods covering data collection, analysis and technical reporting.
Working experience with solving engineering problems, via simulation, preferably using Finite Elements in areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, electromagnetics and biomechanics.
Preferred Qualifications And Skills
Technical knowledge and experience with scientific data, backed up with some form of experience with data analysis, visualisation, and preferably a knowledge of relational databases.
Experience of writing code to automate data analysis/manipulation processes (e.g. Python, C#, Excel VBA macros…).
Good communication skills in written and spoken English and good interpersonal skills.
Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
