About The Role

Technical Commercial and Contracts Lead

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in nuclear decommissioning? EDF Energy is seeking a Technical Commercial and Contracts Lead to join our dynamic teams working to deliver low carbon electricity generation whilst also working to safely decommission the UK’s fleet of AGR power stations.

The Opportunity

The EDF Energy AGR Fleet routinely transfers spent fuel to Sellafield in order to support continued power generation and enable reactor defueling – the Dual Mission. This is achieved via a number of contractual arrangements between EDF Energy and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

As the Technical Commercial and Contracts Lead you’ll report to the Dangerous Goods & Spent Fuel Services Manager, and will deliver the spent fuel commercial strategy to fulfil EDF Energy’s Dual Mission. You’ll be the primary point of contact for all supply chain/commercial matters relating to the management of the AGR Fleet’s spent fuel, and work closely and pro-actively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. This includes working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Nuclear Decommissioning business unit.

The Technical Commercial and Contracts Lead will ensure there are robust and effective processes in place to manage the maintenance, assessment, and continuous improvement of all contracts related to AGR spent fuel. In addition, the Lead is expected to develop and drive enhancements and amendments to support extended generation and optimise defueling.

Pay, Benefits And Culture

We can offer a competitive salary from £59,662 to £92,778 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time position, however we will be happy to discuss options regarding part time flexibility and job share if you would like to highlight this on your application.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility. We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

The management of AGR spent fuel services agreements with the NDA relating to spent fuel transfer, A2 Flask maintenance and transport services.
Delivering the business strategy for AGR spent fuel contracts to support AGR Fleet generation and defueling.
Negotiating, influencing, developing, implementing, and managing contracts to protect EDF Energy’s commercial position.
Maximising value to the business and taxpayer by maintaining compliance with all contractual obligations under the spent fuel-related contracts with NDA.
Liaising with other business functions to inform technical, regulatory, and financial implications whilst managing spent fuel-related contracts.
Overseeing the compilation of annual forecasts and reporting under the spent fuel agreements with NDA.

You will have proven commercial experience operating in technical or scientific environment – this may range from intermediate level to advanced level experience.

In addition, you will possess the following:

A proven ability of working with complex contracts.
Evidence of successfully undertaking complex procurements and of administering contracts.
Effective commercial management and stakeholder management skills, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies in the UK environment.

You will hold a HNC qualification as a minimum in a relevant subject. A degree in a related subject such as Science, Engineering or Business would be advantageous.

Familiarity with AGR operations, NDA and Sellafield operations, and an appreciation of the challenges of managing spent nuclear fuel is desirable.
