Role Overview

Our Platform Engineers reduce friction and enhance the engineering experience through automation of processes, development of essential tooling and collaborative problem solving. They work with other Platform Engineers, Software Engineers, Product Managers and other technical stakeholders, to understand development processes and identify opportunities for improvements. They also define, develop and implement steps to automate the continuous delivery of applications and operational infrastructure.

Location: Basingstoke (preferably) or London (Hybrid).

Responsibilities

Implement and continuously improve multiple CI/CD pipelines - from developer desktop to production deployment.
Support and enable our team of developers as they build features for multiple technology stacks, by reducing friction and enhancing the developer experience.
Work with our Cloud Operations and SRE teams to build next-generation Cloud-based architecture.
Work with platform engineering, software engineering and other stakeholders to understand current system operations and processes and identify ways to reduce friction through tooling and automation.
Research and evaluate continuous integration and delivery technologies, and software design and development methodologies, identifying and recommending potential improvements.
Identify suitable performance benchmarks by which to judge potential system improvements.
Work with cross-functional technical stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve processes and practices through tooling, support, consultancy and knowledge sharing.
Contribute to application project management by either performing or supporting key processes, including:
Defining systems development project and resource requirements,
Estimating costs and budgets,
Facilitating team meetings, including meetings around project scoping, kickoff, milestone achievement, review and closeout,
Documenting and reporting on progress, challenges, risk management and change.
Assist with management of project transition and handoff to system / operational stakeholders.
Perform project post-appraisal to evaluate performance of revised systems against benchmarks and improvement expectations.
Support other projects as assigned.
What You Will Bring

Familiarity with the software, system and applications used across Vonage’s infrastructure, services and product development processes – including Windows, Linux, AWS, Chef, Terraform, and Docker.
Familiarity with software development fundamentals and best practices.
Knowledge of multiple programming languages including Ruby, Python, PowerShell and C# / Java.
Familiarity with CI/CD as well as Jenkins and Github Actions.
General understanding of Lean, Agile and continuous delivery practices and methodologies.
Excellent communication skills.
A collaboration-by-default approach, both with your team members and with wider staff.
A strong desire to learn, build and grow.
Ability to:
Apply analytical skills to evaluate and interpret technical and system problems.
Identify opportunities for process and procedure improvement to drive efficiency and improve customer service levels.
