Job Title: Antibody & Engineering Scientist

My client, a global pharmaceutical organisation currently has an urgent requirement for a talented Antibody and Engineering Scientist to join on an initial 12 month contract.

Key Responsibilities:

Antibody Discovery: Utilize a variety of methods (e.g., phage display, hybridoma technology, single-cell sequencing) to discover high-quality antibodies targeting a wide range of diseases, with a focus on cancer, autoimmune disorders, or other therapeutic areas.
Antibody Engineering: Optimize antibodies for desirable properties such as improved affinity, stability, half-life, and specificity using rational design and library-based approaches.
Assay Development: Design and execute assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry, SPR) to characterize antibody binding and functional activity. Apply various in vitro techniques to assess potency and mechanism of action.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including immunology, protein production, and pharmacology, to support the progression of lead antibodies into development.
Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret experimental data, present findings to project teams, and contribute to reports, publications, and patents.


Requirements:

Proven track record (typically 3+ years) in antibody discovery and engineering in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
Experience with techniques such as phage display, yeast display, or mammalian cell-based selection methods.
Expertise in antibody humanization, affinity maturation, and optimization techniques.
Strong knowledge of antibody characterization assays, including SPR, ELISA, flow cytometry, and other related methods.

No out-of-hours on-call commitments would be required. Extra sessions may be undertaken by mutual agreement. Over the last 20 years spinal surgery has become an important part of the treatment of spinal cord injured patients at the National Spinal Cord Injuries Centre where the overall management of acute cases is undertaken by specialised spinal rehabilitation consultants. Spinal surgery in these cases is highly complex and often performed as dual consultant. Late reconstructive surgery following trauma, paralytic scoliosis and charcot spine are some examples. NSIC is the only centre that treats children and are World leaders in the management of spinal cord injury in this age range. The Fellow will be involved in the daytime on-call spinal rota with back-up of a Consultant. There is no formal out-of-hours commitment.
