AWS Platform Engineer – REMOTE (£50,000)

Responsibilities:
Assist in the management, configuration, and maintenance of cloud-based systems and infrastructure, with a primary emphasis on AWS Cloud.
Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks, enhancing system efficiency.
Work collaboratively with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
Proactively monitor platform and cloud performance, promptly addressing technical issues to maintain consistent system uptime and availability.
Collaborate with the team to ensure secure and compliant infrastructure and data management practices.
Participate in regular backup procedures and periodic disaster recovery testing.
Keep up to date with developments in cloud technologies, incorporating relevant innovations into operational workflows.
Document procedures and configurations to promote effective knowledge sharing across the team.
Provide technical support and guidance to external stakeholders.
Oversee the responsibilities of the Junior Platform Engineer, including:
Installation of software, administration of software assets, and deployment of updates via Intune.
Technical support for physical hardware.
Monitor and manage the CI/CD pipeline.
Support infrastructure management using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code), along with Bash or Python scripting as appropriate.

Essential:
Solid understanding of cloud platforms and services, holding an AWS Associate-level certification or possessing equivalent experience in cloud technologies.
Knowledge of backup strategies, snapshots, and disaster recovery planning.
Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
Competence in operating systems including Windows (desktop and server), macOS, and various Linux distributions.
Confident user-level Linux administration.
Strong scripting abilities, with practical experience using Bash or Python.
Professional experience managing AWS infrastructure and networking setups.
Familiarity with git-based version control and collaborative workflows.
Proven documentation skills and clean, maintainable code.
Understanding of CI/CD processes and agile methodologies.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or similar.
Sound understanding of networking concepts, including routing, subnets, protocols, ports, services, VPNs, firewalls, and routers.

Desirable:
Working knowledge of basic MySQL commands and administrative tasks.
Familiarity with encryption and security technologies (e.g., SSL/TLS, GPG, SSH, HTTPS).
Awareness of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools and adherence to security best practices and ISO27001 standards.
Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as the ELK stack, DataDog, or Logz.io.
