Making days (and careers) brighter
We’re proud to be a global business. And our mission is simple, really: to make every day a little bit brighter for our wonderful customers, teams and communities. We believe in being kind, generous and honest. That’s why, at the end of each night, we donate as much of our unsold food as possible to those who need it most. And why we support those experiencing homelessness through The Pret Foundation.
There’s more to the story, of course. But now, let’s talk about you, and the job…
The makings of our Food & Coffee Developer
Reporting in the Head of Food and working collaboratively with the rest of the development team, this role is responsible for the identification and exploration of new and emerging food trends, translating them from scratch into concepts for further development, with a very hands on approach, into launchable products to be sold under the Pret brand. Based in the UK this role is focused on the UK, EU & Ireland business but also acts as a Food Innovation Centre of Excellence for the group sharing insight and ideas globally.
This role is responsible for the gated development process, that takes inspiration and ideas through concept development to delivery of a viable product/range that can then be scaled up, developed and launched into the business. These recipes must be first and foremost delicious, however it is critical they can be made easily in shops, taking into account all operational issues, launch time frames and commercial guidelines to TCOF. They will be responsible for identifying new ingredients, recipes or categories that fit within the Pret brand to support the constant stream of innovation required to retain our position as an innovation leader. A key part of this is the management of our suppliers and wider teams, to ensure timelines are managed and met effectively and in a punctual manner.
This role is also responsible for working with all Pret systems that enable shop facing material to be prepared to ensure seamless execution of products in our shops. They are responsible for setting up the accurate information on time in all the relevant systems, including, but not limited to recipe costings on the food system, finished product creation on internal systems, as well as creating how to cards for our shops to follow.
Finally, along with the other developers, this person is responsible for the promotion and celebration of Pret’s food culture and innovation strengths, finding ways to bring Pret food passion across the business by creating and delivering food led events, showcases and inductions with Pret teams, partners and shareholders.
In summary, this hands on role is integral in supporting taking approved, developer led concepts from the kitchen and working with the technical, launch, buying & innovation team to translate these concepts into delicious and commercially viable products in the UK, EU and Ireland.
The day to day
This role participates in the weekly Food & Coffee meetings to present concepts, ingredients and products, to support a robust and timely launch process as directed by the launch managers, ensuring that the food is to Pret standard and cost of products and ingredients are in line with product budgets. To do so, this person will work closely with the Buyers, Technical Team and Launch Managers. Not only will they be presenting their own products, they will be working collaboratively with the other developers, supporting them in the preparation of their products, ordering & collecting ingredients when needed.
They will work with suppliers as well as internal teams to ensure that Pret’s direction on food and drink is both in keeping with the brand, but also in line with changing customer needs, behaviours and opinions. This role is responsible for keeping track of any competitor activity across the UK and EU markets, organising food safaris, as well as reporting on global food trends. Additionally, this person supports all other functions, where needed within Pret including supporting the Marketing, Creative and Social teams with product inspiration.
Along with the rest of the development team, they collectively need ensure that the Development Kitchen is kept clean, tidy and efficient, managing all of their stock is stored correctly and rotated / disposed of when necessary and labelled clearly. Other teams will have their allocated space in their kitchen and need to follow to the same standards, ensuring the Kitchen is inviting for external suppliers, stakeholders and weekly food meetings etc.

- Full Stack Engineer (Elixir, LiveView, LLMs)
- Job Description
- 3 billion people across the world work in frontline jobs. Yet, despite rising costs and staff shortages, frontline organisations are still left to choose between paper, Excel, and WhatsApp, or decade-old workforce management solutions to take care of the most important part of their businesses - their people. Enter Sona: the next generation of AI-native, frontline workforce management. We’ve built an end-to-end platform covering Scheduling, HR, Payroll, and Communications that gives the largest frontline organisations everything they need to staff more intelligently and empower their teams. In under 4 years, we’ve already made a deep impact on the lives of over 100k frontline workers and the operation of their organisations, grown the team to 110+, and secured over $50M in funding from notable VC’s, including Felicis, Northzone, Gradient Ventures (Google), SpeedInvest, Antler, and Notion Capital, plus notable angels like Tom Blomfield (Monzo). It’s a hugely exciting time to be joining the team as we’re still small enough that you’ll have a significant impact on the company’s growth trajectory and culture, yet large enough to have a great structure, experienced leaders and world-class benefits in place. More on working at Sona here. About The Role Our stack is built primarily around Elixir, with a Phoenix LiveView web frontend (PETAL stack) and a GraphQL API for communicating with our React Native mobile app. Working towards truly automated workforce management, you’ll join one of our core product pods and focus on iterating on our early agentic AI prototypes, powered by the latest LLMs. We fundamentally believe that the best products are built when small, cross functional, autonomous teams are empowered to solve business problems as they see fit. Everything starts with our customers and our engineers (and wider Product team) work closely with our Customer team and users themselves to ensure we’re building a product that fits our users needs. Our Product team principles give more of a flavour of how we like to work day-to-day. We're also huge fans of agentic coding and believe in its ability to dramatically increase our leverage. We especially love tools like Aider and believe they can add huge value across engineering, product and design. If you've got experience working with similar tools, we'd love to hear about it! Requirements Everybody’s different, but a lot of the following probably applies to you: You have strong professional experience in both Elixir and working with the latest LLMs You have a focus on “getting it shipped” and doing so quickly. When given the choice between “complicated and shiny” vs “get something simple but powerful in front of a user”, you always choose the latter. You’re bullish on what the next 12 months holds for building AI agents and how much change is going to be driven by AI in 2025. You’re comfortable working directly with c-level internal and stakeholders and excel at translating between real world problems and technical solutions for a non-technical audience. You can point at multiple examples - whether you published them or not - of things you've hacked together in Elixir which use LLM's and you've got a list 10 times that long of things you'd like to do if only you had the time. You’re in a country which is GMT +/- 3 and fluent communicating both verbally and in writing in English You’re able to attend in-person company meetups 2-3 times per year, these will be around 4 days long and usually require flying both in and outside of Europe Benefits Salary (converted directly to local currency for employees outside UK): Senior Engineer: £75-95k Staff Engineer: £95-115k Full remote and flexible working Share options 35 days annual leave (25 days standard plus 10 flexible public holiday days) Extra day of leave for every year of service Pension contributions matched up to 5% Comprehensive health insurance Enhanced parental leave & pay Co-working space stipend for those based outside London Bi-annual all expenses paid team retreats The latest Macbook and equipment budget for your home office Professional development budget Unlimited free books Note: this represents a typical benefits package for a UK-based, full-time employee.
