Your future duties and responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Data Engineer to join our team in Basingstoke. This role will be pivotal in driving the collection, formatting and integrity of our data, with a focus on advancing data collection, processing, and storage using cutting-edge distributed systems. Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in Cyber Security or Big Data.

Key Responsibilities

Modernise Data Infrastructure: Develop and enhance data collection, processing, and storage systems using advanced distributed technologies, including Kafka, Kubernetes, Zookeeper, and HDFS.
Automate Release Processes: Improve reproducibility, testability, and quality of our releases by automating release processes. Knowledge of Ansible and Azure DevOps is highly beneficial.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with various teams to understand and meet their security and data requirements, ensuring that our development aligns with their operational needs.
Ensure Data Integrity: Maintain high data integrity and correct formatting as you parse, ship, and audit data, handling thousands of data points per second.

Technical Background

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

Knowledge of distributed data systems, with experience in tools such as Kafka, Kubernetes, Zookeeper, and HDFS.
Proficiency in Linux, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Familiarity with SIEM platforms (especially ArcSight) or legacy Java-based applications is a plus.
DevOps Mindset: An understanding of DevOps principles, with hands-on experience automating releases using Ansible.

Programming And Data Skills

Proficient in SQL, Python, or other similar languages with experience working in Agile environments.
Understanding of data integrity and audit practices, with the ability to collect, parse, and format large volumes of data for security operations.
Security Knowledge: A background in Cyber Security, ideally to the level of CompTIA Security+, is an asset.

Preferred Experience

Experience with Big Data environments and an understanding of security operations.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to support cross-functional project delivery and meet organisational security requirements.
