Role Description
We are seeking an ambitious Data Analyst with strong analytical and technical skills to support our data-driven consulting practice. You will be responsible for acquiring, processing, analysing, and visualising open-source and client data to generate insights that drive business and operational improvements. Working closely with consultants and client data teams, you will play a crucial role in shaping strategies for clients across the public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
Acquire and process data from various sources, including public datasets (e.g., NHS, Social Care, Public Health, Higher Education, demographic sources) and proprietary client systems.
Maintain and update datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency for reporting and analysis.
Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies in large datasets.
Develop dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, and Excel to communicate key insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
Use Python and SQL to clean, transform, and analyse data, ensuring it is structured effectively for analysis.
Help shape how the business acquires and stores data efficiently, working with databases and backend systems as needed.
Assist in developing and maintaining data pipelines to automate data collection, transformation, and reporting processes.
Support predictive modelling and machine learning initiatives by preparing datasets and conducting preliminary analysis.
Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance with relevant security and privacy regulations.
Present findings and insights to consultants and clients, translating complex data into actionable intelligence.
Skills and Qualifications
A strong degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Proficiency in Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
Experience with Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn) and SQL for data processing and analysis.
Familiarity with Power BI and/or Tableau for creating interactive dashboards and reports.
An understanding of database structures, data acquisition, and data processing techniques.
Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data pipeline tools.
Familiarity with machine learning concepts and applications.
Experience working with APIs, JSON, and web scraping to acquire data.
Understanding of cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
The ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences.
A proactive, inquisitive mindset with a passion for working with data to drive business improvements.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
