An established and respected national organisation in the outdoor sports and recreational sector is seeking a highly skilled Frontend Designer to join its dynamic Digital Team. This hybrid position is based near Southampton, and offers an opportunity to lead the design and user experience of one of the UK's leading online resources for this sector.
The successful Frontend Designer will be responsible for managing and enhancing the frontend of the organisation's website, ensuring all digital experiences are visually engaging, accessible, and compliant with current web standards. Reporting to the Head of Digital, the role includes collaboration with internal teams and external partners to deliver a seamless digital journey for members, trainees, and other website users.
This is an ideal opportunity for a frontend professional with a strong UI/UX background, excellent coding skills, and proven experience with CMS platforms-particularly Umbraco.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of frontend features and improvements within the Umbraco CMS, working closely with the Digital Product Owner and external agencies.
Oversee the creation of page layouts, design assets, and content updates while championing UI/UX best practices.
Ensure the website remains accessible and optimised for all users, following WCAG guidelines and modern responsive design principles.
Troubleshoot frontend-related user issues in collaboration with third-party support partners.
Translate stakeholder briefs and feature requirements into functional, engaging, and visually consistent digital experiences.
Maintain detailed documentation of frontend workflows and development processes.
Manage and mentor a junior designer, ensuring efficient delivery of tasks and continuous team development.
Support website marketing campaigns and digital projects, contributing to the organisation's evolving digital roadmap.
Required Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience as a Frontend Designer or frontend developer, ideally within a fast-paced digital environment.
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks.
Solid understanding of UI/UX design principles, with experience delivering responsive and accessible websites.
Hands-on experience with CMS platforms, preferably Umbraco.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud tools.
Good working knowledge of technical SEO and its role in frontend development.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience creating responsive designs that work seamlessly across devices.
Ability to document processes and manage time effectively in a collaborative setting.
