Cloud Foundations (Azure)- Senior Edge Cloud Platform Engineer
This role is largely remote, you would only need to come into the office around once a month, you can chose to come into any of our location (London, Coventry or Manchester)

We are looking for a Senior Azure Edge Cloud Engineer to join and represent a team dedicated to delivering and managing our Hyperconverged Azure Local Platform. Your work will ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and efficiency of the environments hosting Sainsbury’s applications.
Role Summary:
You will play a key role in ensuring our environments are scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient, while driving continuous improvement across our cloud capabilities and helping to deliver best-in-class cloud services to Sainsbury’s.
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Azure Edge Cloud Engineer to support the design, deployment, and administration of Azure Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) for Sainsbury’s Edge solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and managing scalable, secure, and high-performance hybrid cloud infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration between on-premises systems and our Azure Cloud Platform.
What You’ll Do:
Build and Run Scalable Infrastructure: Use cutting-edge tools and technologies to continuously deliver robust Cloud Infrastructure at the Edge, using Infrastructure as Code practices. Engage in supporting the design, collaborating with Product Owners, our Engineering Community and Architects to ensure that solutions help customers and achieve our business goals and objectives. Discover and recommend ways to improve reliability and efficiency, with a keen eye on Governance and Security.
Azure Expertise: Strong experience with Azure HCI services and tools to design, deploy, and manage scalable infrastructure, including the building and management of Containers at the Edge
Passion for Automation: A deep commitment to automation and modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines that support our requirement to scale and robust administration
Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, or similar tools for IaaC.
Tooling and Innovation: Ability to develop custom tools or leverage open-source solutions to enhance platform efficiency and usability.
Enhance Cloud Platform Capabilities: Develop internal tools to improve platform speed, security, and cost-efficiency, enabling teams to work smarter. Deploy and configure production systems, with a particular focus on automation, ease of configuration, reduction of human error, repeatability, and security.
Monitor new features/functionality and assess their Ops implications to continuously improve services.
Ensure Identity and Access Management controls are in place and strictly adhered to
Monitor infrastructure by setting appropriate thresholds and react to event driven alerts appropriately.
Produce and maintain documentation of support processes & resolutions to known operational issues
Collaborate Across Teams: Work with engineers across diverse platforms and technologies to create consistent, reliable, and reusable Edge Cloud Solutions. Collaborate with other DevOps Engineers to support design, implement and evolve automated pipelines to our Edge Platforms. A proactive and collaborative mindset to work closely with stakeholders, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
Ensure Operational Excellence: Focus on delivering a platform that meets stringent security, availability, and performance requirements for critical applications. Participate in a 24/7 on call rota as required to support our Platform and the services that it offers.
What You Need To Know & Show
Have a strong demonstratable understanding of, as well as commercial, hands-on experience of working in Microsoft Azure, preferably with proven experience in Azure HCI.
Proven experience in Cloud Operations and DevOps environments, with a strong focus on best practices and continuous improvement, especially using Azure Local (HCI)
Skilled in automated testing, pipeline maintenance, and using tools like GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control.
Familiar with Agile methodologies, ITIL, SRE, and service operations practices.
Competent in system monitoring, security, auditing, and tracking work through tools like Jira.
Up-to-date knowledge of cloud technologies and a general understanding of related technology stacks.
Effective in managing workloads, mentoring team members, and driving platform improvements while engaging with stakeholders.
