We have a vacancy for a Senior Data Engineer who will have Technical ownership over First Rate’s data infrastructure, maintaining and continuously developing our data fabric. to own, develop and maintain our MS Fabric.

The Role

Technical Ownership of Data Infrastructure: Take full responsibility for the end-to-end architecture, management and scalability of our data infrastructure.
Development of Data Fabric: Maintain and continuously enhance the data fabric, ensuring data flow, transformation and integration meet the business's evolving needs.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with IT, MI and business units to understand and prioritise data needs while implementing technical solutions.
Governance and Security: Ensure compliance with data governance policies, security protocols, and best practices for data privacy and protection.
Data Architecture Design and Development: Design, implement, and optimise scalable data pipelines and infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, with a focus on MS Fabric, Synapse, and Data Factory.
Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to streamline and improve data processes, ensuring seamless and efficient data ingestion, transformation, storage and querying.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor data systems to identify bottlenecks, performance issues, and risks, providing timely resolutions.
Data Integration: Ensure efficient integration of various data sources across the organisation.
Automation and Optimisation: Automate routine tasks such as data backups, ETL processes and error handling to increase operational efficiency.
Documentation and Best Practices: Maintain clear documentation on data infrastructure, processes and procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices and standard operating procedures.
Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping foster a collaborative, growth-driven environment within the data team.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure services (Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake/OneLake, Azure DevOps, and, ideally, MS Fabric).
Strong background in data engineering, design of database structures, data warehousing concepts, data modelling, schema design, ETL and data transformation.
Well-versed in GitHub, Python, SQL, Spark and DevOps practices and tools, including CI-CD pipelines.
Experience in implementing and managing data governance, security and privacy standards in a cloud environment.
Proven track record of building scalable data systems and optimising them for performance and cost-efficiency.
Professional certifications in Azure (Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are a plus.
