Job Specifications
The Systems Engineer in Observability & Monitoring helps build, run & support, w/ supervision, the systems that provide observability and monitoring, visibility & management of the network infrastructure, applications & systems at CME Group. This includes, but is not limited to, status, health, performance & capacity planning to avoid problems w/ system reliability & throughput.
The candidate must have expertise on systems architecture OS like Linux, Windows, and (or) Kubernetes; monitoring solutions like Splunk Enterprise, Grafana, GCP Log Analytics etc., In addition, the candidate should have expertise on DevOps areas like Chef, Jenkins, GIT, Ansible, CI/CD pipeline etc., along with automation skills using Python, bash, shell and (or) PowerShell. Must possess good hands on with software and tools configuration, networking and troubleshooting in various technologies. Hands-on experience with any of the cloud technologies like GCP, AWS. Azure or OpenStack would be an added advantage. Should have an interest in data analytics. Familiarity with basic site reliability engineering (SRE) concepts would be an added advantage.
Principal Accountabilities
Analyzes requirements with experienced team members; Supports existing production environment platforms and implements necessary hardware and software for project execution; Defines the environment scope for business requirements, and maintains and improves the stability, reliability and availability of the platforms and environments; Documents deployment and configuration procedures.
Defines problems and describes the cause and effect relationship; gathers and compares data about problems with supervision, documents the details, prepares analysis reports and reviews with experienced team members. Participates in discussions with experienced team members to generate ideas for problem solving, and accurately defines the circumstances surrounding the decision point with supervision.
Demonstrates knowledge of intermediate systems (Linux/Windows), distributed computing architecture (client server, intranet/internet, networking technologies), hardware platforms and resources - CPU, memory, virtualization and clustering. Configures systems and modifies settings to ensure proper function. Schedules and performs routine maintenance of systems, including but not limited to vulnerability remediation, software and hardware patches and upgrades.
Troubleshoots most of the known issues, determines the root cause and works with experienced team members on solutions and implementation; Verifies implementation, makes adjustments as necessary, provides input into resolution and documents solution
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
Understanding of Cloud Computing basics
Linux/Unix administration knowledge and/or experience
Basic scripting skills in python, bash, shell, or Powershell.
Have a passion for problem solving and automation and a willingness to continue growing your skills in this area.
Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.
Bonus Qualifications
Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform
Knowledge of change management.
Expertise in Chef
Expertise in Jira, GIT, Jenkins or Bamboo
Expertise in configuration management.
Knowledge of Ansible, Java
Prior experience working in financial services/exchange space.
