Data Protection Adviser - 13 month FTC

Your role: Your role will be essential in managing the day to day running of the News UK data privacy compliance programme, as well as supporting the Group Data Protection Officer by providing data privacy advice across key business areas.
Day to day you will:
Support the Data Protection Team in all aspects of the development, implementation, maintenance and reporting of the Privacy compliance programme
Develop, maintain and manage data protection policies and procedures
Produce monthly stakeholder reports on data protection issues
Develop and manage existing supplier due diligence processes
Undertake data mapping activities across the organisation and maintaining accountability documentation, including Article 30 reports and supplier privacy knowledge database
Support the implementation of new suppliers via the News UK Consent Management Platform
Develop and manage a training and awareness programme, to include structured formal and general training and education for all staff on data protection issues
Manage and support processes for handling data subject rights requests, including subject access requests and customer erasure requests, as well as managing and administering customer complaints relating to data protection matters.
Assist in the investigation and response to regulatory complaints
Maintain group company notifications to data protection regulators
Conduct privacy compliance assessments to determine policy effectiveness, identify risks and recommend changes
What we’re looking for from you:
Excellent knowledge of the UK and EU data protection laws, including UK & Irish Data Protection Acts, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and associated legislation
A recognised qualification in data protection (e.g. ISEB certificate or CIPP) or equivalent legal qualification or experience
A good understanding of the data privacy challenges faced by media organisations
Solid experience of working with various areas of an organisation, including legal, Commercial, Marketing, Customer Services (including complaint management), Technology, HR and Security
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to demonstrate excellent customer/stakeholder facing skills
An ability to effectively communicate with colleagues to achieve successful data privacy outcomes
Experience of make decisions and remain calm while under pressure, particularly when dealing with difficult situations
Possess a methodical approach to work, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
