The Opportunity
As our client continues to deliver exciting and significant projects across the highly regulated nuclear sector. They’re seeking a Control Systems Test Engineer to join their team either in their Warrington or Cumbria offices.
The role
As the Control Systems EC&I Test Engineer you will be responsible for design test plans, generate test specifications, execute testing procedures, identify and diagnose faults, and provide solutions where possible, to ensure all works meet relevant industry regulations and client specifications/requirements.
You’ll be responsible for planning and prioritising your own work in delivering the testing and validating of PLC / HMI / SCADA solutions in a highly regulated nuclear industry. This role involves working closely with engineering, design, and development teams to identify, document, and troubleshoot issues in control systems across various platforms.

This role will be based in Warrington or Cumbria
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Test Planning and Execution: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive test plans, procedures, and documentation to evaluate the functionality, reliability, and performance of control systems.
System Validation: Perform rigorous testing on hardware, software, and integrated systems to verify compliance with technical specifications and regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Identify, analyse, and troubleshoot issues within control systems and components; work collaboratively with design and development teams to address root causes.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of testing activities, results, and system configurations; prepare detailed test reports, logs, and corrective action summaries.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, software, and electrical engineering, to optimise testing strategies and improve overall system quality.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all testing activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality and safety procedures
Strong Communication Skills: Able to effectively communicate complex technical information to various stakeholders.
Team Player: Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Self-Motivated: Shows initiative, is proactive, and can work independently.
Continuous Learner: Keeps up-to-date with industry trends and continually seeks to improve knowledge and skills.

You will have the following qualifications & experience
Bachelor’s degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems testing or a similar role in an engineering environment.
Proficiency in control systems, embedded systems, and related hardware/software; experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus).
Hands-on experience with testing tools and equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, data acquisition systems, and automation/simulation software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
Ability to create thorough documentation and clear, concise reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
High attention to detail to ensure testing accuracy and reliability.
Ability to obtain SC-Clearance.
It’s great if you also have the following
Experience in programming/configuration of PLC and/or HMI & SCADA control systems.
Member of a relevant professional institution – typically the IET.
Experience in motor/drive control systems, electrical distribution panels or network/cyber system cubicles.
Software Proficiency: Knowledge of programming and scripting languages commonly used in test automation.
Experience in delivering in accordance with highly regulated Management Systems.
