Description
Solution Design & Implementation
Develop end-to-end solution architectures that align with defence operational needs, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure architectural designs support scalability, resilience, and interoperability with existing and future defence infrastructure.
Oversee the integration of digital solutions, ensuring seamless functionality across multiple defence platforms and systems.
Define and maintain technical standards, patterns, and best practices to ensure consistency in solution development.
Technical Leadership & Strategy
Support the Chief Architect in defining the long-term technical vision and roadmap for defence digital transformation initiatives.
Conduct technology evaluations, identifying and recommending emerging solutions to enhance system capabilities.
Guide engineering teams on best practices in software development, system integration, and cybersecurity.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with project managers, engineers, security teams, and external defence partners to ensure solutions meet operational and strategic objectives.
Translate business and mission requirements into technical specifications and architectural blueprints.
Act as a technical advisor to senior leadership, providing insights on architectural decisions and trade-offs.
Governance, Compliance & Security
Ensure all solutions comply with defence security protocols, accreditation requirements, and industry standards (e.g., DEF STAN, NIST, ISO 27001).
Conduct regular architectural reviews to assess system performance, integrity, and alignment with project goals.
Address technical risks and vulnerabilities, implementing best practices to enhance resilience against cyber threats.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring robust contingency planning for mission-critical systems.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, incorporating lessons learned and best practices into future architectures.
Foster knowledge sharing across engineering and architecture teams to enhance technical capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, SABSA, CISSP, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect) are highly desirable.
Experience
Proven experience as a Solution Architect or similar role in large-scale, high-security environments, preferably within defence or government sectors.
Strong expertise in designing and delivering secure, complex IT and digital systems.
Deep understanding of defence technologies, including secure communications, data analytics, and mission-critical applications.
Technical Expertise
Proficiency in cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or private cloud), cybersecurity frameworks, software development methodologies, and system integration.
