Data Migration Lead
Duration: 14 month contract
Job Purpose: Lead the migration to the new AWS data platform, providing both technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement, migration planning and hands-on involvement in ETL development, data model migration, and integration functionalities. You will manage external suppliers and internal teams, oversee the migration pipeline, and ensure seamless collaboration to drive the successful transition to AWS.
As a Data Migration Lead your main responsibilities will be to:
Lead and manage the data migration pipeline and team resources.
Serve as a technical lead, overseeing migration activities and managing both internal teams and external suppliers.
Provide hands-on engineering expertise, including Terraform deployments for AWS infrastructure.
Lead the design and implementation of AWS migration tasks (e.g., S3, Glue, API Gateway, Batch, Lambda).
Design and manage changes to data models, ETLs, and other integration functionality.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to assess migration gaps and track progress to completion.
Build and optimise back-end ETL systems and data platforms.
Ensure effective deployment standards and manage handover of BAU activities.
Work closely with external suppliers to ensure deliverables are met, challenging them when necessary.
Address supplier issues and ensure clarity and delivery of project goals.
Essential:
Recent experience with AWS migration projects.
Senior Leadership / Stakeholder management
Extensive hands-on and leadership capabilities, including experience leading and mentoring teams in data engineering and migration projects.
Agile experience with strong hands-on experience in Python, Java, and AWS development.
Experience in Terraform deployments, particularly for AWS infrastructure.
Proven expertise in data engineering with structured and unstructured datasets.
Experience deploying and operating AWS Databases (RDS, Aurora, Athena, Dynamo) and AWS DevOps knowledge.
Proficiency in SQL and large-scale database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
Ability to build and optimise data sets, 'big data' data pipelines and architectures.
Familiarity with AWS infrastructure components like S3, Route53, and CloudFormation.
Confident in stakeholder engagement and able to articulate architectural decisions.
Desirable:
Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI, QuickSight, or Alteryx.
Development skills in shell, java, R and/or other data-oriented languages.
Exposure to MuleSoft or AWS API Gateway for API integrations.
Experience using Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence).
