Role Overview:

This senior-level position is responsible for overseeing the monthly financial close process, applying relevant accounting policies, and presenting financial outcomes to upper management. The role also supports the preparation of regulatory filings in compliance with UK GAAP and Solvency II requirements for the organization’s entities.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and mentor two junior team members, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of ledger maintenance and reconciliation tasks.
Prepare, review, and submit external regulatory filings, internal management reports, and group-level reports.
Manage Lloyd’s-specific reporting, including QMA, QMB, QF1, GQD, TPD, TRIA, NAIC, and US Situs filings.
Finalize statutory accounts and underwriting year reports for assigned entities.
Support the preparation of Solvency II filings, including QSR, QAD, and ASR reports for multiple entities.
Prepare and review Board, Audit Committee, and other high-level papers to ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
Contribute to the GAAP and STAT financial close processes by compiling data for profit and loss calculations, maintaining balance sheets, and other related activities.
Perform quarterly reconciliations to support internal controls and compliance with SOX requirements.
Coordinate with auditors to facilitate successful audit processes.
Carry out additional tasks as required.

Skills and Competencies:
Proficient knowledge of financial reporting standards, including GAAP and statutory accounting frameworks.
Experience with Lloyd’s and other UK regulatory reporting requirements in the insurance sector.
Ability to understand and implement financial reporting practices and internal control systems.
Familiarity with month-end close processes and account reconciliations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Advanced Excel skills, including the use of complex formulas and functions.

Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with a CPA or Chartered Accountant certification.
Experience:
At least five years of experience in Lloyd’s syndicate reporting.
A minimum of three years of post-qualification professional experience.
This role is initially a 12 month FTC.

You will work collaboratively with our laboratory site in Starcross, Devon as you undertake identical methods, covering different areas of the country. This role will initially be a Monday to Friday working pattern during the training period but will then be required to move to a Tuesday to Saturday working pattern which will attract enhanced pay. The team You’ll be working within a small Inorganics team alongside approximately 60 other Analytical staff and 8 Customer Services colleagues. We provide analytical services to the Environment Agency and external customers which includes the analysis of sediments, soils, biota and waters from across England and around the coastline, as well as offering a bespoke Forensic Waste Service. Experience of working within a UKAS accredited chemistry laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 Experience of using, improving and validating methods, and troubleshooting issues on continuous flow analysers, discrete analysers or similar instrumentation. Able to work to tight deadlines and have an ability to prioritise individual and team workloads, while adhering to strict quality criteria. Good communication skills Experience supervising, training and developing the ongoing competency of a small team.
