We are looking for a Big Data Engineer (IoT focus) for a freelance project in Antwerp, BE. The position is Full-Time (5 days p/week) and Hybrid over an initial duration of 12 Months, plus a likelihood of extensions.

About the Role
This company is seeking two passionate and experienced Senior Big Data Engineers to join their team and play a crucial role in developing and evolving their Azure Data & IoT platform. This position will involve a blend of hands-on development, coaching, and strategic thinking as they leverage data to drive business value across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Platform Development:
Design and implement the Azure Data & IoT platform, encompassing both Data Warehouse and Data Lake environments.

Hands-on Development:
Develop and maintain data pipelines using technologies like Databricks (including DLT, ML), Spark, Python, and Azure services (Data Factory, Stream Analytics, Event Hub, Data Lake Storage).
Ensure high-quality code with robust testing, comprehensive documentation, and effective monitoring and logging.

Coaching & Mentorship:
Guide and mentor team members through a continuous learning journey in data engineering best practices and technologies.

Business Value Delivery:
Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights and solutions.
Focus on delivering projects that directly address business challenges and improve operational efficiency.

Agile Methodology:
Embrace Agile principles, specifically SAFe, and effectively collaborate within a Scrum team environment.

Technical Expertise:
Deep expertise in the Microsoft Azure Data Platform, including IoT solutions (Azure IoT Hub, potentially edge computing).
Proven experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
Strong understanding of API design and development, including API governance.
Experience with data modelling, data architecture design, and analysing business use cases.

Required Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in developing and deploying data solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform.
Advanced proficiency in Python, Databricks, Spark, and Azure DevOps.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, preferably SAFe.
Experience with IoT solutions, including Azure IoT Hub.
Experience with data modelling, data architecture design, and analysing business use cases.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on finding innovative solutions to complex data challenges.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience with edge computing.
Experience with API management.

Language Proficiency:
Native or bilingual proficiency in Dutch.
Professional working proficiency in English.
