Network & Infrastructure (SME) Team Lead

On behalf of an industry Leading organisation, I am seeking a hands-on' Senior SME & Team Lead in Networks and Data Centres who will oversee the organisation's network infrastructure and data centre operations design, implementation, and management. The role combines deep technical expertise in networking, cloud integrations, and data centre management with leadership skills to guide a team of network and data centre SMEs.
This role is predominantly office based with a requirement to work from their Guildford offices 4 days a week.
Responsibilities:
Provide in-depth expertise in network architecture, data centre management, and cloud infrastructure.
Lead the design and optimisation of the organisation's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers.
Oversee data centre operations, including server management, storage systems, and disaster recovery planning.
Stay updated on the latest trends, best practices, and emerging networking and data centre technologies to drive innovation.
Troubleshoots complex network and data centre issues, providing advanced solutions to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
Ensure the network and data centre environments are secured according to industry standards and organisational policies.
Implement and maintain security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, and network segmentation.
Work closely with the security team to monitor, identify, and respond to potential network vulnerabilities and threats.
Oversee regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration tests to maintain a secure infrastructure.
Lead and mentor a team of network engineers and data centre experts, ensuring high performance and technical growth levels.
Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress to ensure the successful delivery of projects and services.
Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for professional development within the team.
Foster a collaborative and innovative environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Experience/Skills required:
3+ years of experience in network engineering and data centre management.
Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-level network and data centre infrastructures.
Deep knowledge of networking technologies (eg, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, VPNs, VLANs).
Expertise with network hardware (eg, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers) and network monitoring tools.
Experience in data centre technologies, including virtualisation (eg, VMware, Hyper-V), storage solutions, and cloud platforms (eg, AWS, Azure).
Strong understanding of security protocols and best practices, including Firewall management, encryption, and VPNs.
Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning in a network and data centre environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.

As an IT Security Engineer you’ll be responsible for maintaining, evaluating and testing the security of our systems.
