Job Overview
An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a team leader to head up our expanding women and children's research team. The post holder will also lead other research teams where cross cover is required or service needs change.
The position is a 12 month secondment and applicants are invited from within the existing team only.
We are looking for someone with extensive research experience in maternity, paediatrics and/or neonatology at band 6 or above. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and leadership skills and be able to motivate the team to deliver a wide variety of research studies including commercial, interventional and non-interventional.
It is a great position within a successful and motivated team delivering high quality research to our patient population.
Main duties of the job
Manage or co-ordinate research projects at across the department
Provide expertise and guidance on research studies across the trust and in the wider health community; disseminate knowledge & promote research culture.
Hold specialist caseload and support changes to clinical practice and service using specialist expertise,
Participate in the education and training of own and other health professionals in clinical research and own area of specialism.
Accountable for own professional action working within codes of practice, guidelines and current legislation.

Due to the expansion of the workforce we have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for a full-time motivated Staff Nurse to work within our brand new state of the art Cataract Theatre Suite which has recently opened at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The fixed term post offered is for 37.5 hours per week, working for four variable days Monday– Friday. Some weekend working may be necessary depending on the demands & needs of the ophthalmic service.
Suitable newly qualified staff will be considered.
Main duties of the job
You will be primarily based within the Theatre Suite assisting the ophthalmic clinician to undertake cataract surgery under local anaesthetic. With the expectation to cross site work in The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, Ophthalmology Dept. The role will include scrubbing, escorting, admission and discharge of theatre patients, testing visual acuity as well as any other diagnostic tests that may be necessary.
In addition to working within the Theatre Suite, there will also be the opportunity to rotate into Ophthalmology Outpatients in The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital that deals with several ophthalmic sub-specialities, making this a diverse, exciting opportunity for the right applicant.
Experience within a Theatre setting would be extremely desirable, but training would be given for the right applicant who has the desire to make a difference and endeavour to maintain a high standard of care for our patients.
Ongoing support will be offered & there will be a training package in place.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a fixed-term, full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Pathology Specimen Reception team, based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Please note that this is not a trainee Biomedical Scientist post and is unlikely to lead to one.
We want to employ an individual who is looking for a career as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. We are seeking a self-motivated and conscientious individual who has an organised approach with good attention to detail and who can remain calm in stressful situations. You will need excellent communication and observation skills and should enjoy working as part of a team.
Previous experience in a NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided. A good level of secondary education is required with English, Maths and Science to GCSE grade 9 - 4 (or equivalent).

The role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant is varied and involves supporting the scientific staff in the receipt, data entry and pre-analytic preparation of patient samples, preparing chemical solutions, maintaining stocks of consumable items, disposal of chemical and/ or biological waste, and maintaining and decontamination of complex laboratory equipment and as such is a key role in supporting a diagnostic service.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday). Core hours will be 10:00-18:30. You will be expected to participate in the out of hours rota with approximately one Late shift every other week (12:30-21:00) and a Partial Late (11:00-19:30). Shifts will vary according to service needs so flexibility is essential. You will also be expected to support a 7 day working rota which includes nights, weekends and Bank/ Public holidays.

In the Blood Sciences department you will be working alongside a friendly, expert and energetic team of Consultants, Clinical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners.
