Contract Senior Power BI Developer
Job Description
We are excited to present an opportunity for a Contract Power BI Developer to join an esteemed business located in Glasgow, Scotland. This position offers a hybrid working model of 2 days on site, allowing you the flexibility to balance remote work with valuable in-office collaboration.
The ideal candidate will possess robust experience in Power BI Development with a strong focus on data visualisation, report design and dashboard creation. Proven experience creating detailed reports for all levels of a company, including executive and board-level stakeholders.
This initial contract lasts for 3 months, with competitive compensation offered between £400 - £450 per day (Inside IR35).
Experience
Someone who is Power BI-focused, not just a general BI or data person.
Strong in DAX, Power Query, and data modelling—need to be able to build complex measures and optimise reports.
Hands-on experience building interactive dashboards—should understand UI/UX principles and know how to make reports clear, user-friendly, and actionable.
Prototyping expertise—be able to quickly create and iterate on report designs based on feedback.
Familiar with Power BI Service, security (RLS), and publishing reports.
Able to engage with stakeholders and translate business needs into reports.
Technical Skills:

Power BI: Advanced proficiency with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query.
Data Modelling: Strong experience in data modelling, including relationships, hierarchies, and calculated fields.
SQL: Proficient in SQL for querying, transforming, and managing relational databases, especially Oracle and SQL Server.
SQL (Oracle and SQL Server): Advanced skills in SQL, particularly with Oracle and SQL Server databases, for querying, transforming, and managing relational data.
Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud data services on AWS and Azure, supporting data integration and scalability in cloud environments.
UI/UX: Knowledge of wireframing tools (e.g., Figma, Balsamiq) is beneficial, with a keen eye for design principles that enhance user experience.
Data Connectivity: Experience with connecting Power BI to various data sources, including APIs, on-premises databases, cloud-based systems, SFTP, direct connections, and other methods.
Agile and Project Management: Experience working in Agile environments, with familiarity with project management and collaboration tools.

We are looking for an R Developer with financial modelling experience to help design, build, deliver, and support models & applications serving the pensions market. You will:

Drive innovation and increase the maturity of our frameworks, integrations, and automations.
Collaborate closely with senior developers, architects, and actuarial modellers to deliver sustainable solutions that deliver value for our business.
Be involved with meaningful work - we can provide complex challenges, at scale, in novel market areas.
Be core to the product teams that build, test and scale our applications and services.
Work closely with our R User and Model Expert Groups to promote best practices.
Support less experienced team members with R development.

About You
To succeed in, and enjoy, this role you are likely to be familiar with:
Modern software development best practices from initial problem and data analysis, through to solution design and technical implementation.
Non-functional aspects of software delivery such as performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
Financial modelling (pensions domain beneficial).
Applying coding and technical solutions to complex financial scenarios.
End-to-end implementation of R solutions

You will have experience of the following:
Strong pensions domain knowledge gained in an actuarial context essential
R Programming (ideally in the context of package development)
Tidyverse (i.e. dplyr, purrr, tidyr)
Git and general code-management / documentation practices
Continuous improvement and continuous delivery practices
