Job Description

We’re seeking a skilled and diligent full-time Software Engineer to join our growing team. You’ll be joining our growth focused team which is looking to expand our footprint of new users and provide an excellent integration experience for external developers. You will work as part of the engineering team to:

Develop the Tailscale product, contributing to client code and related services.
Bring a special focus to developing features related to our kubernetes operator, API and integrations

Because we’re an early-stage and fully remote company, we’re looking for a strongly motivated individual who can help move the product forward. The ability to think on your feet, collaborate with highly technical teams, and comfort working asynchronously are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Work as part of a team of engineers and designers to add features in the Tailscale service
Take a holistic view of the product, from customer needs to client applications to the admin console
Develop features that support a broad range of functionalities for kubernetes integrating with tailscale

What We Are Looking For

Experience with developing operators for kubernetes
Experience with developing robust kubernetes control loops
Familiarity with networks (IP addressing, routing, etc.)
Ability to give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently
Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
Experience with Go is a plus. (most of the non-front-end portions of the system are developed in the Go programming language)
Experience with internals of kubernetes networking is a plus

Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle, from writing code to product ideation and strategic decision-making
Work with UX/UI designers and product managers to shape features that enhance networking capabilities

Key Responsibilities

Work as part of a team of engineers to design, build, test, and document core software components
Develop and optimize product features spanning across our coordination server backend, and open source client code
Exhibit ownership over the running services that comprise Tailscale’s product by building for observability, participating in incident response, and fielding customer support escalations
Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of systems and resources
Bring a security-first mindset to both design and implementation

What We Are Looking For

Experience with distributed systems
Experience with one or more SQL databases
Experience with Go is a plus
Familiarity with networks (IP addressing, routing, etc.)
Ability to give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently
Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
Ability to join an on call rotation, after becoming familiar with the platform
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Description

If you’re passionate about solving customer issues and providing high-quality support, this is the role for you! We’re seeking a new full-time Customer Support Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support for individuals, teams, and companies using Tailscale. You’ll be part of a growing team of engineers focused on delivering excellent support and proactively solving friction through partnering with our Sales, Product, and Engineering teams.

Because we’re an early-stage and fully remote company, we’re looking for a motivated individual who can think on their feet, enjoys collaborating with highly technical teams, and is comfortable working asynchronously. This doesn’t mean we are going to give you more work than you can handle– we want to understand your special, niche skills and enable you to bring them to work with you.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Become an expert in the use of the Tailscale product, including Access Control, Authentication, and Routing features
Handle support requests from customers regarding issues occurring in their use of the product
Work closely with Customer Success, Sales, and Engineering to help users successfully deploy the Tailscale product
Collaborate with our Engineering team to debug and fix customer issues

Qualifications and Skills:

4+ years experience in a support role within a SaaS company
1+ years experience with network troubleshooting. You should know what NS lookup and IP tables are. Extensive experience with Tailscale is even better!
Interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a team
Excellent written communication skills. Much of the role is via email and async slack conversations
A strong desire to work with customers and partners in solving problems
Preference will be given to candidates based in the Pacific time zone
