About the Company

We set up Optima Dev, because quite simply, we were tired of agencies overcomplicating things.

Recruitment should be a pain free, transparent process for everybody and that's what we're striving towards.

So, what's the best way to achieve this? Keep things simple.

When it comes to our advertising roles, instead of copying and pasting a shopping list of requirements (which tells you nothing about the role), we'll do our best to put together an engaging advert, which actually tells you why you should apply - and in what may be seen as a shocking twist, we'll be open about the perceived challenges you'll be walking into.

If you're looking to hire, our non-negotiable, is we won't always tell you what you want to hear, but we'll tell you what you need to. Sometimes a harsh truth is better than a comfortable lie, and in our experience recruiting in highly competitive markets, we've found this approach works better for everyone involved.

Our focus falls within the realms of Software Engineering, predominantly those with .NET/C# bias, but our secondary focus has always been within the world of Data Engineering and Data Science.

Of course, we've plenty of roles away from these, but they've always tended to be within the SDLC (Testing, Front-End, BA's etc.) - but if you need help elsewhere, then we'll see what we can do.

We're proud to partner Pendleside Hospice, and will continue to donate a % of our yearly turnover to support the great work they do.

Site Reliability Engineer
Job Description
So yeah, let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room.

This is a hybrid role. You’d need to be onsite 2-3 times per week – working from their office in Henley-in-Arden. You’d need to be able to drive too, as transport links aren’t great.

You might as well find out now, so you’re not wasting any time.

Your focus initially, will be to improve system performance and their automation capabilities. Building and deploying scalable solutions, like Terraform modules and Kubernetes configurations. Whilst optimising deployment processes, using CI/CD pipelines.

Everything they’re doing is hosted on AWS – so you’ll need to show your knowledge here. Also, as a business, their Devs lean on a modern .NET/C# stack – so any background here would be ideal.

Salary wise, they’ll pay in the realms of £55,000-£70,000 DOE.

If you’d be interested in finding out more, feel free to reach out to Jack Leeming @ Optima Dev.

You’d need to be UK-based, and they can’t offer sponsorship.

Senior Data Engineer (95% Remote)
Job Description
You’ll probably be the kind of Engineer who loves rolling up their sleeves, and still getting stuck into coding. You’ll probably like the sound of having no legacy tech to worry about – and you’re probably looking for the chance to actually influence decisions.

Well, this is the role for you.

You’d be joining a team who’ve built their data infrastructure from scratch over the last few years. Even better, they’re having no issues and things are going well – but they don’t want to stand still.

But as they’re continuing to grow, they’re looking to take it to the next level and make their infrastructure more mature – so you’ll come in to help with reliability and stability.

They already have plans to form a Central Data Hub (which you’ll play a big part in) – and establishing a larger data mesh.

Your focus will be on all things data processing within Databricks, ingestion pipelines, and DataOps/DevOps.

Tech wise, you’d surround yourself with PySpark/Python, Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform and IaaC. Of course, you’ll ideally have exposure with most of it.

As it stands, their Data team is only small – just one other Data Engineer at the mo. So you’ll get the chance to put your own stamp on things, and take ownership of your own work.

Salary wise, they’ll pay anywhere from £70,000-£82,000 DOE. It’s majority remote – heading into Oxford once every couple of months or so.

They can interview this side of Christmas too.
