Are you ready to lead the next generation of reliability, automation, and DevOps in a high-traffic e-commerce environment? As the new Head of Site Reliability and DevOps you will drive scalability, security, and performance across our digital platforms.

You’ll oversee Technology Leads for Digital Platforms and lead the Release Train function, ensuring seamless coordination of releases, platform stability, and continuous improvement.

Purpose Of The Role

Within this role you will lead the SRE & DevOps strategy to ensure 99.99% uptime for mission-critical platforms, such as booking engines, payments, and mobile apps, guaranteeing seamless user experiences and operational efficiency. By overseeing Technology Leads.

You will also drive continuous innovation, implement industry best practices, and maintain high levels of platform reliability, ensuring that all systems run smoothly and meet the highest standards of performance and availability.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will be managing the Release Train function, ensuring smooth, coordinated releases with minimal risk.
You’ll automate & optimize infrastructure, deployments, and CI/CD pipelines using Terraform, Kubernetes and GitHub Actions.
Implement robust monitoring & observability, leveraging Dynatrace, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry for real-time insights.
You will strengthen cloud security & compliance, ensuring PCI-DSS, Zero Trust, and AWS IAM best practices.
Scale platforms for peak demand, implementing auto-scaling, caching, and load

balancing for high-traffic events.

Mentor & grow a high-performing team of SREs, DevOps engineers, and platform leads.

What You’ll Need

Proven Experience in SRE, DevOps, or Cloud Infrastructure roles.
Extensive experience in leading engineering teams, including managing Technology Leads.
Experience managing large-scale e-commerce platforms with high transaction volumes. Deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools. Strong background in release management, coordinating complex deployments across
multiple teams.
Security-first mindset, ensuring cloud security, compliance, and DevSecOps best practices.

What You’ll Do

Responsible for the direction of engineering across the cloud native backend space, to support the overall Technology plan.
Governance & decision making for designs, ways of working and solutions to engineering requirements (tech stack, CI-CD, security, patterns etc).
Support the design process across our platforms, working with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs.
Supporting the Technical Lead community in driving the Engineering Community of Practice.
Peer review of technical designs and business requirements.
Supporting the Maintenance of the Engineering Skills matrix, training plans and development.
Work with exciting tech stake such as; Kubernetes on AWS with Istio, Java 17, Docker, GraphQL (Apollo), Akamai, Auth0, Jenkins, Maven, Dynatrace, Expert CI/CD, Github, Jira and Confluence.

What We Need

Proven experience of developing technology platforms, including technical architecture, estimation, planning, non-functional requirements, and Continuous Improvement activities using modern agile techniques.
Be able to work in an Agile environment where responding to change is a daily requirement.
Solid experience of designing and building secure highly scalable cloud native web applications.
Experience working with off-shore partners particularly focusing on fostering amazing working relationships.
Have expert experience with Java Microservices and cloud native architectures (AWS ideally)
Are an expert and evangelist for technology and innovation within this specific domain.
Have experience with CI/CD and the ability to evangelise about this.
Have experience with tooling solutions eg Kubernetes, Istio, Veracode, Sonarcube, Maven, Jenkins or similar.
Have some experience of developing training and team development plans to drive performance across multi-skilled teams.
Have a good understanding of business modelling techniques and approaches to capturing requirements.
