Bring the new vision of nuclear to reality.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So, talk to us about what's ideal for you - from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us.

As a Design Manager in our Nuclear & Power Division, you'll be able to bring your unique skills, work style and background to the mix. We have a huge variety of major builds on the go, so there will always be something exciting for you to get involved in. Join us to build a career as a professional Design Manager, while helping us to make a sustainable difference, and shape the future of our business.

Your Purpose

As part of our Nuclear New Build business, our Project Delivery capability team specialises in taking on the most complex engineering projects and opportunities that exist across the board, from technical leadership to project management. With existing relationships with the major operators in the nuclear sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build. Our projects are on a global scale with opportunities across the UK, Europe and Middle East, across a range of projects in both the Large Civil Nuclear market and the emerging New Nuclear Technologies market.

Due to continued growth supporting our clients in the delivery of the next generation of Nuclear Power, we are seeking Design Managers to join our team. Working as a Design Manager, you will be working across our Nuclear New Build business, either leading the delivery of Atkins engineering projects or embedded into our clients' programmes. We are recruiting predominately in the Bristol and Epsom locations where you will join a team with a diverse mix of people from all around the world supporting on projects such as Hinkley Point C , Sizewell C, the Small Modular Reactor programme, New Nuclear Technologies programme and the UK EPR design centre. As we support our clients you will be expected to travel and work from client sites across the UK as the role, project or secondment requires.

There has never been a more exciting time to join the industry as we engineer a cleaner, zero-carbon future for our planet.

What You Can Bring

The opportunities we have are varied in size and nature and suit a range of management styles and backgrounds; but as a consultancy, we are looking for enthusiastic, self-starting individuals who will thrive on being able to adapt and use a combination of best practice design management and exceptional people management skills, to support the delivery of any challenge that is faced. You must be able to appreciate the practical and technical issues that affect a project and to work constructively with a broad range of stakeholders and project teams that are either local to you or distributed across multiple sites.

Typically, the role and responsibilities of an Atkins Design Manager will include:

Lead the delivery of complex design projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
Assist in the implementation of the project BIM strategy, utilising integrated design tools and data management systems.
Coordinate contributions from multiple disciplines to achieve cohesive, integrated solutions.
Manage a design team, ensuring the team's output aligns with client requirements and project goals.
Coordinate design activities across various disciplines and liaise with clients and team members to ensure the timely production of deliverables.
Oversee the management of project deliverables in coordination with the Document Controller.
Facilitate communication between Information Managers, Technical Leads, and other project stakeholders.
Support the Project Manager with progress reporting and client communication.
Assist the Engineering Manager in change management processes as directed by the Project Manager.
Ensure effective integration across workstreams and areas.
Lead the development of the design programme and manage its implementation.
Promote and manage the implementation of digitally progressive processes and techniques.

We Are Looking For Candidates Who

Strong communication skills, with a passion for working in a dynamic and diverse project delivery environment.
Eager to take on new challenges, learn, and contribute to the development of others within a multi-disciplinary team.
Self-motivated, with the ability to inspire and lead teams, handle conflicts, and foster a collaborative team culture to meet client needs.
Open to UK travel and flexible working hours, including occasional out-of-hours work, to meet project and client requirements.
Demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary design teams and delivering complex projects.
Proven ability to manage project risks, scope changes, and complex dynamics.
