Job Description

We are seeking an Engineering Lead based in our London office, offering a flexible combination of in-office and remote work. As an integral part of our mission, you will lead a team dedicated to optimizing and launching new products, building the most convenient and scalable onboarding experience for Brazilian people and business in compliant way with local regulatory guidelines.

We are enabling customers to onboard Wise conveniently without any unnecessary friction. We make sure that we only ask information that is easy to provide, and effectively helps us combat fincrime. Automating information collection and review will make the onboarding experience of customers quicker, and help us scale our operation with the growing number of customers.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the Brazil Team:

You’ll integrate with several local partners and government institutions to power our onboarding experience.
You’ll manage an infrastructure that enables Wise to comply with local regulatory requirements.
You’ll multiply Wise’s growth rate by unlocking core functionality through the power of APIs and cross-border payments infrastructure - in short, the products you build will help Wise reach consumers and small businesses wherever they are managing their money in global environments.
You'll lead, coach and grow a team, as well as shape the technical vision.
You’ll own onboarding, verification and reporting flows and improve the customer experience.
You’ll scale a best in class product across Brazil while ensuring the learnings you have in-market are shared back with our other global regions.
As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team’s technical solutions, including code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.
As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, mentoring and supporting people in your team. Also you’ll make sure the team has the right size and mix of profiles. Decide when to hire. Think about the team organization and evolve the team when needed.

About The Role

For our customers, using Wise is as simple as sending money from A to B. Yet behind our app and website is a complex engine of currencies, routes, products and features, generating terabytes of data each day. The Data services offered by the Data Squad is at the core of systems that store, process and leverage this data, ultimately providing real time insights that serve as one of many drivers for business growth.

Your mission and role will be building and maintaining a cost efficient and scalable machine learning platform, that is convenient to use and that provides a good engineering and data science experience. Your input will directly affect how Wise is making decisions and predictions on billions of events.

How We Work

We operate with a belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and reusable design. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe.

As we grow, it is imperative to protect our customers’ money and navigate complex regulatory requirements world-wide. You will have a focus on running and maintaining the data services, making sure we have the right observability and service management elements in place, with an eye for high-availability, assessing and reducing engineering load and devising more effective ways for the team to look after its cloud-based platform.

We need to sustain this growth by continuously iterating on the services we run, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use. We’re looking for an engineer with relevant experience who can understand and respond to complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence.

What do you need?

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. You have solid engineering background in Python with years of experience putting solutions into production and maintaining them
You have knowledge of cloud based ML solutions from GCP or AWS
You have high coding standards - understanding of test coverage best practices & the test pyramid concept, and you are well versed in writing effective, scalable and clean code
You have experience designing and implementing distributed and concurrent systems, knowing the tradeoffs between stateful/stateless and synchronous/asynchronous architectures
You have ability to take initiative while working collaboratively - identify problems, empathise with stakeholders and collaborators, create plans and implement solutions
You are a great communicator with the ability to clearly relay your plans back to the team, mentor junior engineers and seek out feedback for yourself
The customer is at the heart of everything you do and this empathy drives the decisions you make

Nice To Haves

Passionate about technology and its relationship with product and user experience
Some knowledge of the Java ecosystem including the Spring framework
Experience with streaming data processing frameworks such as Flink, Beam, Spark, Kafka Streams

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Senior Analytics Manager to lead product analytics for the Onboarding Squad at Wise. You’ll join a squad leadership team comprising Product, Engineering, Design and Research, and lead a team of 7 analysts.

The Onboarding Squad owns the website and onboarding flow experiences which all customers go through to start using Wise, the login experience on all platforms which makes it convenient for customers to log in while keeping bad actors out, and brings people and businesses to Wise via our referral programme and SEO.

What You’ll Do

Ensure accurate, impactful, fast decision making throughout the squad with high quality analysis, raising the bar for a/b testing and helping us to iterate faster. Make accurate datasets and insights widely available for self-serve.
Lead and develop a team of high performing, happy analysts (individual contributors and managers). Support analyst professional development via performance feedback & coaching; hire and plan capacity; ensure analyst time is spent to maximise impact; increase scalability via automation.
Partner with Product/Engineering/Design/Research leads to increase impact across the squad. Identify opportunities for customer impact and bring them to life; review team plans and progress, giving them effective feedback.
Create and communicate a clear picture of progress against the squad’s goals. Ensure that the squad has clear goals, measurable KPIs and narrate our progress and communicate where action is required (whether inside or outside of the squad).

Qualifications

What you'll bring

6+ years experience in analytics with 3+ years leading analysts (teams of 3+) and experience in product analytics.
Analytical thinker with strong analysis skills (SQL, Python), data modelling (e.g. airflow, dbt) and experience using event data (e.g. Mixpanel, Amplitude).
Strong experimentation acumen - you know how to get accurate insights with small sample sizes and what to do when a control group isn’t available.
You can work independently in a fast-paced environment (able to identify impactful projects and evaluate & triage inbound requests).
Strong stakeholder management skills - you are collaborative, you know how to influence and when to say yes or no to maximise impact.
Bias to action: you identify what needs to be done and make it happen.
You have a track record of using data to identify opportunities and making them a reality.

About The Role

Join our Cloud Networking team, where you’ll play a crucial role in building and maintaining the services that ensure Wise’s cloud networking infrastructure meets the demands of a growing FinTech business. You’ll develop tooling and provide hands-on technical expertise to design, deploy, and optimise our services on AWS and other major cloud providers, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.

What You’ll Be Working On

Build, maintain, and support Wise’s networking within its cloud platform through software and automation.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver effective outcomes.

What You Need

In-depth knowledge of building complex applications and automation tooling in Python (experience with Golang is a bonus).
Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable cloud-based solution architectures, preferably on AWS and/or GCP.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automating infrastructure provisioning, developer operations, or continuous integration/deployment.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate concepts to users and stakeholders and facilitate cross-team collaboration.

Nice to Have

Understanding of the Kubernetes operator pattern.
Experience with networking within the cloud.
Experience with one or more observability platforms.
Knowledge of the financial services industry and/or other regulated industries.
