What is the purpose of this job?

The HR Apprentice will support the HR team in a range of administrative and coordinative tasks, offering a valuable opportunity to develop practical skills and experience in various HR functions within the Rail Delivery Group.

Throughout your 16-month apprenticeship, you will gain insights into aspects such as recruitment, employee relations, training, and HR policy implementation while working alongside experienced professionals. The role will work closely with our x2 People Operation Assistants.

What can I expect to do in this job?

This is not an exhaustive list, but this role will involve a variety of tasks, which may include:

Assisting in the recruitment process by coordinating interviews, preparing job postings, and liaising with candidates
Supporting the onboarding process and ensuring new starters have the necessary documentation and resources
Supporting the leaver process and ensuring leavers have been processed in a timely manner
Maintaining employee records and HR documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with data protection regulations
Participating in HR projects and initiatives as they arise and providing support on an ad-hoc basis
Helping to organise training sessions and employee events, contributing to a positive workplace culture
Supporting our People Operation Assistants in answering/responding to queries via the People & Inclusion team inbox
Learning about HR best practices and legislation, putting theoretical knowledge into practical applications
Gaining exposure to various HR functions, including performance management, employee benefits, and health and safety


Requirements

A keen interest in HR and a desire to learn and develop in the field
Good organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise efficiently
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact confidently with team members and stakeholders
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiar with using technology to support HR activities
A proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to undertake an apprenticeship and commit to training and development throughout the duration of the program
