The Opportunity

This is an amazing opportunity to join CGD at an early stage and work within the applications engineering team as they grow in both size and capability. The applications engineering team are responsible for the introduction of leading edge GaN products into various sectors including power supplies, mobile chargers and adapters, and many other consumer, industrial and automotive applications.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Director of Application Engineering, you will work in close collaboration with sales, business development, marketing, system engineering and product development as well as with our regional teams to:

Support the development of state of the Art, high efficiency power converter demonstrators and reference designs using our GaN products for consumer, industrial and automotive applications
Work with our customers to understand their platforms, trends and how our GaN devices will help them deliver a performance step change.
Understand the strengths & weaknesses of competitor solutions and together with our world-class device designers ensure we maintain our advantage.
Support technical applications training to internal teams, external partners and customers
Spread the word by creating high quality application notes, white papers, design guides and other technical documents
Contribute to our product development strategy & roadmap, exploring & identifying tomorrows super high efficiency products

Requirements

Skills and Experience

You are also interested in driving new requirements in CGD target markets and in sharing your knowledge and experience within the team.

Essential

A degree or above in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
Solid switching power supply experience for consumer or industrial products
Familiar with the commonly used switching power supply topology structures – Flyback, PFC/LLC, etc – including power and control circuit design
Solid analogue, digital and power electronics design expertise, strong hands-on skills and familiar with the specifications and applications of various electronic components
Possess good power debugging capabilities and be familiar with power supply performance test specifications, reliability test specifications, and EMI related knowledge
Good logical thinking, strong communication skills and good team player
Fluent English language

Desirable

Experience of GaN-based applications
Demonstrable switching power supply development experience as factory/agent FAE or Application Engineer in adapter/charger related business/industry
Track record providing technical solutions for customers, working with them to develop/improve products
Able to trouble shoot EMI issues independently and have a good understanding of EMI theory
Capable of using ECAD SW Altium, PSPICE circuit simulation and Mathcad
R&D background in at least one of the following areas: mobile phone charger, laptop adapter, Gaming power supply, PC power supply, TV power, LED drive and Solar inverter
Fluent Mandarin or Cantonese language

The Opportunity

CGD is looking for a Software Engineer to join our growing Software engineering team. With a broad spectrum of problems to tackle and technologies to work with, this is an amazing opportunity to grow quickly and have an impact in the early stages of CGD.

You Will Work Closely With Internal Customers Throughout The Business To Understand Their Requirements, Deliver And Support Effective Solutions That Enable Operational Excellence Throughout The Business. You Will Have The Opportunity To Work At All Levels Of The Stack, Applying Your Skills And Willing To Learn To:

Microcontroller firmware
Instrument control and automation
API implementation and integration
Infrastructure as code
Web App development

The role is based at the company’s office in Cambridge, UK, alongside our growing in-house R&D capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

Working as a key member of the Software team, you will be supporting the development of tools, platforms and automation that will accelerate CGDs day to day activities and product development.

This will include developing software that controls suites of instruments for testing CGDs product portfolio and producing data pipelines that enable CGD to make quick and effective decisions throughout the supply chain.

You will work closely with people throughout the business to ensure requirements are well understood, implementing and testing your code against these requirements and supporting your work in production.

Requirements

Skills and Experience

Essential (Technical)

A Bachelor’s degree or above in an engineering discipline
Proficient with Python
Familiar with HTML and JavaScript
Familiar with source code control tools (preferably Git)
An understanding of software development best practices, e.g. automated testing, continuous integration and deployment
A robust understanding of relational and non-relational database technologies
Ability to design and implement common object-oriented design patterns

Essential (Non-Technical)

Ability to communicate technical ideas and concepts to a range of skill and experience levels
Willingness to question and seek clarity in unclear and new problem spaces
Strong desire to learn and apply yourself to a broad spectrum of technical challenges
Self-starter, flexible and able to handle multiple projects in parallel
Fluent in English, both writing and speaking

Desirable

Experience developing for cloud providers such as AWS
Experience of instrument automation using e.g. PyVISA.
High level understanding of communication methods and protocols e.g. Modbus, TCP/IP, CAN etc.
Experience developing serverless architectures
Experience developing web applications in Svelte/SvelteKit
Familiarity with power electronics, simple circuit design
