Job Summary

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist seeking to be involved in new ways of working to support vulnerable children with SLCN?

As part of the SEND and AP Change Programme Luton and Central Bedfordshire Local Authorities are setting up multi-disciplinary Alternative Provision Specialist Teams.

The team of co-located specialists including a Speech and Language Therapist will undertake integrated, child-centred work with pupils and their families, sharing information and their expertise.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to assess and facilitate the communication skills of children referred as part of the programme.

The post involves identification at a highly specialist level, the types of communication disorders found in this client group and the provision and delivery of a range of appropriate interventions to the young people and their case managers.

The post holder will actively contribute to the strategic development of speech language and communication policy and provision within the APST programme.

Be responsible for the overall delivery of SLT assessments and interventions within the MD team. Develop clear pathways for referral, assessment and intervention plans. Ensure appropriate data collection to evidence outcomes and effectiveness of the role Ensure that the service to young people accessing the service is effective and well co-ordinated through the implementation of evidence-based practice, clinical governance programmes and monitoring and evaluation. Take responsibility for effective partnership working across agencies for this part of the service To develop understanding of communication difficulties, interventions and support strategies the APST staff and partner agencies and measure the effectiveness of this. To undertake training of APST staff, those who work with the child and some wider school team to raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by the young people and to offer strategies to facilitate their communication. Facilitate access to mainstream services as appropriate. Facilitate referrals on for diagnosis or support as appropriate. To develop clear care plans based on best practice. Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload, clinical and non-clinical commitments. Demonstrates standard keyboard skills - post involves entering records/data onto management information systems within APST service as well as report writing. Able to travel throughout the borough of Luton and Central Bedfordshire and less often to establishments outside the Borough where required. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in Speech and language Therapy
HCPC registration
Member of the RCSLT
Evidence of successful completion of specialist post graduate short courses

Experience Essential

Knowledge and experience of working with of a broad range of clinical disorders, assessments and appropriate therapeutic interventions in SLT
Well established knowledge of broad range of SLT clinical assessment tools relevant to adolescents/young people who offend
Experience in inter-agency working
Experience in developing and delivering training to other disciplines, carers and service users
Demonstrates well established understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit
