Role Description
BAE Systems have been contracted to undertake the day to day operation of (and incremental improvement of) a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to support the defence of a major UK Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) organisation. The networks protected are predominantly hosted in cloud platforms, with many hundred systems within these environments that must be protected. The customer is committed to development of this improved SOC to be a benchmark of best practice and excellence in reflection of the significant threat that the protected systems are subject to.
This role requires a minimum of DV clearance.
This role reports to the Service Delivery Manager.
The Role
You Will Be
Accountable for ensuring all relevant potential cyber threat and key vulnerabilities are detected, triaged and reported on daily
Accountable for all regular reporting and ensuring the efficient delivery of all threat intelligence and vulnerability products by their respective deadlines
Where there is not established schedule for a product the lead is responsible for ensuring that an achievable deadline is set and the work is fairly tasked out
Responsible and accountable for the selection of key threat actors that pose the greatest risk to the client
Responsible for the development and continuous review of Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs), a tailored collection plan and implementation of both to ensure that the intelligence products are relevant to the client’s interests
Accountable for the quality of all Threat Intelligence and Vulnerability Reports, ensuring that when a product is delivered it is at the highest possible standard
Accountable for ensuring that all relevant process are effectively documented and regularly reviewed
Responsible for providing well-reasoned and sound analysis, context and predictions into the relevant deliverables
Accountable for assessing the maturity of the established functions within the client and identifying areas for improvement, productising those improvements and delivering them
Accountable for the personal development of all members of the Threat Intelligence and Vulnerability team
Responsible to ensuring that during times of reduced capacity that all ADHOC and regular products are completed and are at a sufficient quality for distribution
Requirements
Technical
5+ years’ experience in threat intelligence, vulnerability management or conducting research and investigating cyber threats in a technical capacity
Experience in technical incident response and management
An expert understanding of current and emerging threats related to government and CNI
Excellent Open-Source research skills
Demonstrate a high level knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and the use of command line terminals
Demonstrate a high level knowledge of core networking concepts and technologies
Demonstrate a high level knowledge of and experience operating within cloud platforms
Non-Technical
Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science or equivalent experience in a SOC/Threat Intelligence/Vulnerability Management field
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate the risk, potential impact and importance of detailed technical information to non-technical and senior stakeholders
Team player and adept at working in a multi-disciplinary and diverse team

BAE Systems have been contracted to undertake the day to day operation of (and incremental improvement of) a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to support the defence of a major UK CNI organisation. The networks protected are predominantly hosted in Azure and AWS cloud platforms, with many hundred systems within these environments that must be protected. The customer is committed to development of this improved SOC to be a benchmark of best practice and excellence in reflection of the significant threat that the protected systems are subject to.
The SOC will be staffed by a blend of customer and BAE Systems staff, based in multiple locations, but with the day to day operations based from our Leeds office (due to the need for customer network access available at this location).
The SOC Analyst roles are ‘hands-on’ shift based roles, working as part of a 24/7 operation with four shift teams working in a standard rotation. They are responsible for utilising the SOC’s SIEM and SOAR toolsets to detect and investigate potential Security and Service Incidents occurring within the monitored networks.
These roles require a minimum of SC clearance and be prepared to undergo DV clearance. Due to timelines for the start of operations, it will not be possible to sponsor new clearances so candidates must have existing clearances.
Responsibilities
Monitor, triage, analyse and investigate alerts, log data and network traffic using the Protective Monitoring platform and Internet resources to identify cyber-attacks / security incidents.
Categorise all suspected incidents in line with the Security Incident policy
Recognise potential, successful and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises through reviews and further analysis of relevant event detail and incident summary information.
Write up high quality security incident tickets using a combination of existing knowledge resources and independent research.
Assist with remediation activities (or support customer stakeholders) to inhibit cyber-attacks, clean up IT systems and secure networks against repeat attacks.
Produce security incident review reports to present information about the security incident and provide security improvement recommendations based on the security incident review.
Understand Threat Intelligence and its use in an operational environment
Support incident response to national scale incidents in a coaching capacity
Work with other teams within BAE to improve services on the basis of customer needs.
Requirements
Technical
Basic Python and/or scripting skills, Windows, OS X, and Linux
Experience using Splunk and Sentinal
Working with a range of security tooling/technology
Strong understanding of security architecture, in particular networking
Detailed understanding of threat intelligence and threat actors, TTPs and operationalising threat intelligence.
Experience in investigating complex network intrusions (by state-sponsored groups or targeted ransomware attacks).
Understand TCP/IP component layers to identify normal and abnormal traffic
Understanding of AWS &/or Azure cloud services

As an AWS Solution Architect you will be working with our customers to define and architect the functional blocks of AWS to support their Cloud adoption journey and beyond.
This is a key role working closely with the customer. You will elicit customer requirements for cloud adoption and Cloud-native architectures, understanding the current eco system and how the cloud migration will fit into this. The role will define patterns and services that are required for a successful migration to AWS, and assurance that the migration is well architected.c

Core Duties
Take on the technical lead role in migration enablement work.
Work with the community of development teams, to deliver migration services using, common code, standards and artefact format and proactively drive collaboration, particularly where there are service dependencies
Define and document AWS architecture for migration (baseline, target, roadmap, patterns, standards, reference architectures, etc), supporting a wide range of use cases
Run architectural reviews of the platform at appropriate intervals to take best advantage of vendor technologies
Pro-actively define, optimize, automate, publish and communicate deployment patterns for migration
Support engineering teams in optimizing the migration path
Escalation point for engineering teams in troubleshooting and incident management
Driving the adoption of automation in the platform, using common methods with other platforms
Documentation of deployed systems, scripts and other working practices to enable, re-use and support users across the world
About You
You will have experience in many of the following:
Cloud Migration experience
Experience in Cloud Platform Architecture with AWS, defining cloud reference Architectures and Cloud Patterns in a large multi-account AWS estate
Plenty of experience in AWS and experience in solving complex business issues. Regarded as an AWS subject matter expert
Experience with various DevOps tools and CI/CD tools
Experience in AWS Security services and Network Services
Experience with working within an Agile framework
Good understanding of AWS security concepts and the goals of cyber security
Good communication skills both verbal and written
