AI is transforming customer support and, with over 12 years of experience building customer operations solutions, Front is in a unique position to shape this transformation. The AI innovation team at Front leverages AI and ML methodologies to build functionality across the entire breadth of the product. Our workflow automations, agent assistance and operational insights have only scratched the surface, and user engagement is already extremely promising. This role would have the opportunity to get in at the ground floor and significantly influence the direction of the product as we scale.
What will you be doing?
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to build and enhance product features.
Develop in a JavaScript environment, with a strong focus on TypeScript and React.
Contribute to the deployment of AI-powered features for our users (e.g., AI Tagging, AI Answers, etc.) See examples
What skills and experience do you need?
Must Have
Proven industry experience building fast, reliable, and real-time web applications.
Product-minded: Passionate about delivering exceptional user experiences.
Ability to think from first principles, evaluate trade-offs between technical solutions, and make pragmatic technical decisions.
High learning agility - you’re excited when you encounter a problem you haven’t seen before.
Strong communication skills that illustrate a clear, structured thought process.
Should Have
Comfortable thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative, and high-growth environment.
Knowledgeable about modern web technologies and a strong appetite for learning new ones (e.g React, Redux, TypeScript)
Familiarity with the architectural patterns of large-scale web applications.
Nice To Have
Experience with AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, Vector Databases, etc.).
Rigor in A/B testing, test coverage, and modern web best practices.

Through building tools and products for other engineers, our infrastructure team acts as a team multiplier - think auto-scaling, horizontal sharding, scalable storage systems, application performance monitoring, and more. We are currently scaling our cell architecture and infrastructure management system to support one hundred cells and thousands of nodes. Curious? Talk to us, we’d love to tell you more.
What will you be doing?
Provision and manage our cell architecture at scale. You will build tooling to provision new cell infrastructure instantly, scale up and down cells, and rebalance load across cells
Operating Elasticsearch clusters and Kubernetes clusters with hundreds of nodes e.g. upgrades, instance maintenance
Building our infrastructure CI/CD system that manages everything from servers in Kubernetes to AWS resources to Kubernetes clusters
Troubleshoot and resolve low-level bugs and issues, e.g. Memcached throughput exceeding AWS caps, MariaDB latency bounded by disk, network partitions in our AWS VPC
Design, deploy and operate asynchronous work queues, high-volume storage systems, high-throughput systems: you should not be afraid of writing code that will decide to start or stop 1000 servers
Partner with our product teams to ship highly scalable backend systems using technologies like DynamoDB, MariaDB, ClickhouseDB
What skills and experience do you need?

Industry experience with highly available, large-scale distributed systems at a large-scale internet service
Experience working on software systems built atop Amazon Web Services (or other cloud providers)
Fluency in a dynamic language like Javascript, Python, Ruby, or similar
Strong track record of launching and delivering projects of significant complexity and high level of ambiguity
Understand the trade-offs in employing different technical solutions to a problem, valuing pragmatism over idealism
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative, and high-growth environment
Full professional English proficiency
Nice To Have
Experience scaling data stores such as MariaDB and Elasticsearch
Experience with Kubernetes
Advanced Linux systems engineering skills
