Role Title:Scala Developer
BU/Segment:Banking
Location: Northampton (2-3 days in the office)

Summary of the role:

We are looking for an experienced Scala Developer with strong expertise in big data technologies to join our dynamic team in the banking sector. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions using Scala, Spark, Hadoop, and AWS services. This is a data engineering-heavy role, and prior experience in big data processing and ETL is essential.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:
Designing, implementing, and maintaining Scala-based applications for large-scale data processing.
Developing big data solutions leveraging Apache Spark, Hadoop, and related frameworks.
Building, optimising, and maintaining ETL pipelines using Spark-Scala and AWS Glue ETL.
Working with AWS cloud services such as S3, EMR, Glue, Lambda, and others to support scalable and secure data pipelines.
Handling large datasets efficiently using Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and other big data storage solutions.
Collaborating with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to define and implement scalable data solutions.
Implementing data transformation and processing workflows for structured and unstructured data.
Ensuring code quality, performance, and security through best practices and peer code reviews.
Staying updated with emerging trends and technologies in the big data ecosystem.

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:
Proven experience as a Scala Developer with a strong focus on big data and distributed computing.
Hands-on expertise in Apache Spark and Spark-Scala.
Experience with Hadoop ecosystem components (e.g., HDFS, Hive, HBase, MapReduce).
Data engineering experience with ETL pipelines and data transformation workflows.
Strong knowledge of AWS services including S3, EMR, Glue ETL, Lambda.
Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases for large-scale data storage and querying.
Understanding of distributed computing principles and parallel data processing.
Familiarity with microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
