WALT Labs is a modern Managed Services Provider, Cloud Consultancy & SaaS organisation focused on helping companies succeed with Google Cloud and Workspace. We’re looking for a Development Lead to play a key role in two areas: supporting our GCP and Workspace Managed Services customers through automation, tooling and leading the MSP team. Additionally, you will have a joint focus on leading the development of our internal platforms (& new product developments), Nitro (onboarding & automation) and Carbon (FinOps & CloudOps portal for GCP and Workspace customers).

Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid/remote role for a Development Lead located in the United Kingdom but can also be in Europe. The Development Lead will be responsible for leading and overseeing the development team & MSP team, ensuring the successful delivery of projects, support, and collaborating with clients to understand their goals and requirements. They will also be involved in the development of complex cloud infrastructure projects and staying up to date with new cloud technologies. Additionally, Looker, BigQuery and data wrangling experience is a massive bonus for this role, given how heavily used these tools are for our customers and software. This role reports directly into the Cheif Product & Technology Officer. This role is more of a focus on development operations vs software development, although does involve leading a team of software developers so an understanding of software development is a bonus.

Play a key part in leading the development of Nitro and Carbon, collaborating with product and design teams to turn ideas into high-impact features.
Build and maintain internal and customer-facing tools that enhance automation, observability, user onboarding, billing insights, and cost optimization across GCP and Workspace.
Design scalable, maintainable, and secure architectures for both internal platforms and Managed Services tooling.
Collaborate with Cloud Support Engineers and SREs to identify recurring pain points and opportunities for automation across customer environments in Managed Services.
Mentor junior engineers and support a healthy engineering culture focused on learning, quality, and continuous improvement.
Champion best practices in DevOps, code quality, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
Stay current with new features in Google Cloud and Workspace to identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency within our tools and services.
Assist on key projects related to direct customer delivery for things such as Data Analytics deployments and in some smaller cases, Workspace deployments.
Feedback key support points, from customers, into our products to enable a more seamless user experience.

Qualifications
Experience working in a similar role in the cloud technology industry
5+ years of development or DevOps experience, with 2+ in a leadership role
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud and Workspace APIs
Knowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform a plus), and cloud-native tooling
Experience building SaaS or internal platforms — ideally in DevOps, FinOps, or MSP spaces
[Preferred but not required] Strong backend development skills (Node.js, TypeScript, or Python
[Preferred but not required] Experience working heavily in Data Analytics (BigQuery, Looker)

Salary
Between £55,000 - £90,000, depending on years of experience

Job Description
As a Customer Engineer, you will be a key player in driving our customers' success by translating their business needs into innovative and effective technical solutions. You will partner with sales teams to understand customer challenges, design and present compelling solutions, and guide customers through the implementation and adoption of our products and services, with a focus on Generative AI solutions on Google Cloud. This role requires a blend of technical depth, business acumen, and strong communication skills, with a specialization in applying Generative AI technologies to solve complex business problems. A Customer Engineer needs a blend of strong technical skills in cloud-native technologies, including AI/ML, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities to assist customers with their cloud solutions.

Core Focus: Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Expertise

Cloud-Native Proficiency: Kubernetes, containers, and serverless architectures
GCP Service Mastery: Deep knowledge of core GCP services (Compute Engine, Storage, SQL, BigQuery, etc.), with a strong emphasis on Vertex AI and other AI/ML offerings
Vertex AI: Expertise in building, deploying, and scaling machine learning models with Vertex AI, including AutoML, custom training, and pre-trained models. Understanding of Vertex AI's role in enabling generative AI solutions
GCP AI/ML Services: Knowledge of other relevant Google Cloud AI/ML services and APIs (e.g., Natural Language API, Vision API)
Infrastructure Automation: IaC with Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager
Cloud Solution Design: Building scalable, secure, and resilient cloud architectures, including designing AI/ML infrastructure

Customer Engagement:
Partner with sales teams to identify and qualify business opportunities and understand key customer technical objections, with a focus on Generative AI opportunities

Build and maintain strong relationships with key technical stakeholders and executive leaders at customer organizations, with an emphasis on understanding their Generative AI needs
Solution Design & Architecture:
Analyze customer business and technical requirements to design comprehensive solutions that address their needs, with a focus on Generative AI use cases
Develop and present solution architectures, including diagrams, documentation, and best practices, with a focus on integrating Generative AI components

Qualifications
